Description

I UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE.
JACOB GASPAR VOLLMAR, OF PORT HURON, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- FIFTI-IS TO GEORGE FRANK, OF SAME PLACE.
"QSIIUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 502,792, dated August 8, 1893.
Application filed April 16, 1 892.
.To all whom it'may concern:-
MAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in suspenders, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and definitely pointed out in the claims. In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a suspender embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the buckle guard or cover. Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view showing the under side of the button and strap guard. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the button guard showing a modified form thereof.
While I have shown my device as applied to a suspender it is evident that there are Various other uses to which it may be put and I do not desire to limit myself to that par-.
buckles and buttons are usually badly worn.
the garments of the wearer opposite'the" Serial No. 429,439. (No model.)
the position shown in dotted lines in Fig.1. In this position the elastic section H is slightly extended so that it is held in its adjusted position against probability of accidental displacement.
H is a flap preferably of triangular shape, as shown in Fig. 3 and having a strap I at its upper edge adapted to engage in the eye D and be secured thereto in any suitable manner. This flap is of such size'as to cover the straps E in the position in which they are in use and is provided on its inner edge with a guide strip J, under which the straps E pass, preventing the displacement of the straps from the guard flap, at the same time allowing access to the button-holes in the ends of the straps. In this way all the wear due to the motion of the person and caused by the presence of the buckles and buttons is taken up in the sleeve and flap H and the cloth fully protected.
It is evident that the buckle cover may be applied to harness, &c. In place of using the ordinary straps E and applying my guard flap H as a protection thereto, the flap may have the short straps K secured thereto and thus form itself a portion of the support or suspender.
What I claim as my invention is- In a suspender, a buckle having the spring jaw O, the combination of the eye D, on the jaw, straps E secured to the eye and extending down at an incline in opposite directions,
and a guard flap for the straps extending over and beyond the same having its upper end attached to the eye and provided at its lower end with a cross strap projecting over the straps E, substantially as described.v
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. v v JAOOBOASPAR VOLLMAR.
