CARD 0B. LElTEE- CASE.
No. 501,431. A Patented July 11, 1893-.4
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS LAMBERT, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
CARD OR LETTER CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,431, dated J' uly 11, 1893.
Application filed February 2, 1893. Serial No. 460,643. (No model.)
To all whom/'zit may concern,.-
Be it known that I, J ULIUs LAMBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card or Letter Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in card or letter cases and the object of the invention is to secure large capacity or storing room in said case while at the same time preserving a compact structure as set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawingsin which- Figure 1, is an interior elevation of the case open. Fig. 2, is a section along .fr n: Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a section along y y Fig. 1. Fig. 4, is a section similar to Fig. 2, the case being closed.
In the drawings the letter A indicates the back or outside wall of the case. A ap or strip B is sewed or secured to the back along three edges leaving the fourth or top edge free to form a mouth or opening for the pocket C formed between the back A and flap or piece B. The flap B is made of a size corresponding or substantially so to the back A so that the pocket C practically corresponds to the dimensions of the back. A large pocket or storage space C is thus obtained convenient for inserting such articles as bills, paper, letters, notes, or memoranda which sometimes require liberal space to prevent excessive folding or crumpling.
The flap B is shown provided with supplemental flaps D. One or more such aps D may be employed according as it is desired to form one or more smaller supplemental pockets.
The mouth of pocket C can be closed by any suitable well known clasp or fastening E.
The back A is shown provided with a strip forming a shoulder F at or near the free edge of the flap B and with Which said free edge lies flush or practically so when the mouth of pocket C is closed.
The materials employed for the article are of course such suitable materials, as, for eX- ample, leather, cloth, or silk or the like as are known to pocket book 'or card case manufacturers.
When the case is folded or doubled up as in Fig. 4, it can be conveniently carried in the pocket as usual with letter or card cases and the contents of the case will be kept secure, neat and clean.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A card or letter case, consisting of a back A, a main flap B of substantially the same dimensions as the back, secured thereto at three edges to form the storage space C, and leaving a free edge which is provided with a fastenin g clasp E to connect. with the back, a flap D forming a supplemental pocket on the main iiap, and a strip F secured to the back in j uxtaposition to the free edge of the main flap to form a shoulder with which said free edge lies flush when held closed by the fastening clasp, substantially as described.
2. A card or letter case, consisting of a back A, a main fiap B of substantially the same dimensions as the back, secured thereto at three edges to form the storage space C, and leaving a free edge which is provided with a fastening clasp E, supplemental flaps D secured to the opposite end portions of the main flap to form pockets, the mouths of which face each other, and a strip F secured to the back in juxtaposition to the free edge of the main Hap to form a shoulder with which the said free edge lies iush when held closed by the fastening clasp, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I Vhave hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing` witnesses.
J ULIUS LAMBERT.
