CARL I'IARTWIG, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DROPPlNG-STOPPER FOR BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,892, dated July 4, 1893.
Application filed January 31, 1893. Serial No. 460,437. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, OARLHARTWIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dropping-Stoppers for Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the aceompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved attachment to bottles, and consists of a tube tapering to a small end, and secured in the center of the cork, and opening atone side of the said tube, and means for covering the same, and a cap or cover to protect the said tube, whereby the contents of the bottle may be discharged drop by drop, as Will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device constructed in accordance with my invention, and attached in position in the neck of a bottle. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view on the line 10-00.
To put my invention into practice I form the cork with a cylindrical opening through the center, and in the direction of the length of the same. Arranged in this opening is a glass tube 3 tapering to a small end 7 at the top, and provided with an opening 4 at one while dropping the contents from the small orifice 7 at the end of the tube. This opening may be partly or wholly closed by means of a Hat rubber band 5 placed about the tube 3. This tube is covered by a glass casing 6, and the said casing held in position by being pressed over the exposed end of the cork 2.
In operation: the casing 6 is removed and the rubber band 5arranged to partly uncover the opening 4 and the bottle 1 tipped, and the contents of the same dropped from the small orifice 7 at the end of the tube, thereby affording a means for dropping medicine from bottles accurately, and without any trouble.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein described attachment for bottles consisting of a tube 3 tapering to a small end and arranged through the center of the cork, 2, the opening 4 at one side of the said tube, the band 5 for covering the same, and the casing or cover 6, all arranged and combined for service substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto aiiix my signature this 26th day of January, A. D. 1893.
CARL HARTWIG. [L. 5.]
In presence of- JAS. J. MOAFEE, M. E. HARRISON.
