BLOTTlNG-PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,774, dated July 4, 1893.
Application fil d December 5, 1892. $erial No. 454,117. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN CHAMBERS Mo- GINIE, a subject of the Queen of England, residing at I-Iankey Street, in the city of W'ellington, in the Colony of New Zealand, have invented a new or Improved Blotting-Pad, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to blotting pads such as are used for drying ink on letters, books of account, and other similar articles and has for its objects performing this operation in a more expeditious and convenient manner, also in the case of books of account to leave the hands free to turn over the leaves with facility while the blotting pad is supported by the hand in readiness for use.
In order that my invention may be readily understood I will proceed to describe the same and for that purpose shall'refer to the accompanying sheets of drawings in which similar letters refer to corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure I, is a perspective view showing my blotting pad as supported by a hand holding a pen. Fig. II, is a sectional view of the blotting pad. Fig. III, is an end elevation of the same. Fig- IV, is a sectional view of another arrangement of the blotting pad. Fig. V, is a plan of the same in elevation. Fig. VI, is a side elevation of the blotting pad with the blotting material in the form of a roller. Fig. VII, is an end view of the same. Fig. VIII, is a .sectional view of my improved pad fitted with Fig. IX, is a plan of the same terial (by preference) and so formed that they will fit upon the fingers of the right or left hand as desired. These loops may either clip one finger or more or may be able to grasp the whole hand. They might be formed of rings of metal but are intended to fit on the hand conveniently and securely so as to be supported in the position shown in Fig. I. They are secured to the plate a, by a rivet or wire or any convenient fastening 6'.
It will be seen from this description of the several parts and by reference to Figs- I, II and III that myimproved blotting pad consists in forming a blotting pad I), of a convenient size to be carried on the back of the hand clipped between two clipping pieces a .and c, by the elastic bands (1 d, and attached to the fingers or hand by elastic loops or rings e.
In Figs. IV and V is shown a form of myimproved blotting pad with one elastic clipping band f, which together with the finger band 6, is fastened to the plate a, by means of the plate g, and screws or rivets g.
In Figs. VI and VII is shown a form of my improved blotting pad in which the blotting paper is fixed on a roller 4", which roller revolves in a frame which carries the finger band e, as shown.
In Figs. VIII and IX is shown a form of my improved blotting pad in which the ends of the blotting paper I), are held between the plate 0, and two metal clips 5 3, having springs s 8, supported by pins g attached to the clip g, (by preference) as shown in the drawings.
Having now described my invention, I declare that what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In combinatioma pair of parallel plates, a pad of blotting paper havingits ends clamped between the contiguous faces of said plates and a spring encircling both the plates and interposed between one of said plates, and the blotting pad, substantially as described.
JOHN CHAMBERS MOGINIE.
