To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANoEs SHELDON JEROME, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunks for Travelers, of which the following is a specification:

Referring to the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification, Figure 1 is a viewin perspective of the trunk closed. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the trunk set on end with the front open. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of xx Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a frontview of the body with the drawers removed. Fig. 5 is a top view of Fig. 2 with the top-cover closed. Fig. 6 is a general perspective View showing the ward-robe compartment, the Writing-desk attachment in position on the front and the dressing-case on the top set up for use. Fig. 7 is a vertical transverse section through the ward-robe compartment, andFig. 7L is a horizontal transverse section. These two sections are taken through the middle of this compartment in two planes one set at a right angle to the other. Fig. Sis a view in perspective o f the toilet-box and mirror removedfrom the trunk.

My improved trunk for travelers comprises mainly, two compartments one of which forms a Ward-robe and the other a chiffoniere and dressing-case. NVhen in use it is made to stand on end.

The compartment A for the ward-robe is of less depth than the portion B containing the drawers and boxes, and these sections when closed produce a compact chest or trunk with all the parts in proper condition for handling l in transportation. The tw'o sections A AX are separable on the line ax on all sides and form rectangular frames to t-he adjacent edges of which all around a plaited or folded canvas C C is attached as shown in Figs. 6, 7, 7 in proper manner to produce flexible extensible Walls capable of beingdrawn out as 1 shown in Fig. 6. Swinging brackets or arms b l) b with hooks upon which to hang articles of apparel are pivoted to pins h of graduated lengths, and the latter are connected tothe top 5o board of the ward-robe compartment so that the arms b may be folded inward and backward without coming in contact each with the other as shown in Fig. 7 when the canvas portion is collapsed and shut in between the two frames. In that position the canvas web should fold inward so that a close joint will be formed between the meeting edges of the two frames; and, by means of hooks, catches, bolts or other like means Q operating upon the inside, the two parts are locked together. The hinged cover D on the outer frame shuts down upon the ward-robe and forms the door of that compartment. The front side of the other compartment Bis attached by hinges d CZ cloto form the door -or cover E over the drawers and boxes. When the trunk is set on end this door will assumeV the position shown in Fig. 2 to expose to view a series of drawers and boxes F, F, FX Fzof diferentcapacities. These drawers are constructed of some light strong material such as papier mach and are placed on top of each other crosswise in the compartment and fill the entire space therein, save and except the space marked G which in this present arrangement is divided from the front by an upright partition gX to form a hat-box. -A removable sliding cover G2 divides this box intotwo separate spaces whenever two smaller compartments are required instead of the single deep box G.

The space in front of the partition gx' contains the toilet-box F4 and both spaces are closed in on the top by the hinged cover H.

The toilet-box has trays I forming pockets or receptacles for various articles of the toilet, and on the top is fitted a hingedfoldingmirror K as shown in Fig. 8.

The table L is suspended by the chains ff or by braces beneath it in front 0f the drawers just below the desk compartment F3 which consists of two horizontally swinging doors covering` a space for containing writing material.

Access to the ward-robe compartment is had through the door D, and to the dressing or toilet-case by raising the cover H.

All the parts can be easily and quickly adjusted for use or folded up for traveling, the diiferent sections and covers or lids being provided with suitable catches and locks such for instance as shown at Q.

The herein described trunk for travelers consisting of two main portions separated by a partition, one portion comprising two frames A and A connected by accordion-folded canvas C of a size to fold within the frames when their edges come together, a lock for detaohably securing said edges together, and a folding door D in the outer. frame, and the other portion B having a series of drawers and the like, and means for securing them in closed position, as and for the purpose set forth.
