COMBINED MATCH AND TICKET CASE.

The invention consists of the new device or safe, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the drawings forming part of this specification Figure l. is a side view of my combined match-box and ticket safe. Fig. 2. is a plan view thereof with the cover thrown open. Fig. 3. is a side view showing a modification thereof, and Fig. 4. is a sectional View of the same on the line 4 4. Fig. 3.

In the drawings A. designates a case or shell made of a single strip of metal or other suitable material, and shaped so as to form two separate, independent cells or chambers C. D. and aslot orguide-wayl.tluough which the tickets G. are fed. E. is the base or bottom thereof, and F. is the cap or cover secured to the side of the shell A. by means of the hinge u'. and retained in position by the flat spring b.

The mode of constructing the bodies A, of the cases in order to form two separate compartments is by taking an oblong strip of sheet metal or other suitable material, and bending one end thereof in the form of a semi-circle, and securing the same tothe bottom E, of the case. The remainder of the strip is then carried entirely around the edge of the bottom E, to a point beyond the center of the cell or chamber C, and its vertical edge secured near the back of the case thereby forming the second cell or chamber D, and the guide-way I, as shown by the plan view, Fig. 2. In the modication the body A, is likewise constructed of a similar strip of sheet metal or other suitable material, and the cell or chamber C, formed by bending one end of said strip, as shown by the sectional View Fig. 4, to witz-a cylindrical form having an opening and an overhanging flap which serves as a wall for the guide way I, through which the tickets G, are fed. l After the cell or chamber C, has been thus formed it is soldered or otherwise secured to the bottom E, and the long end of the strip is then carried around the edge of said bottom E, and the vertical edge thereof secured to the side of the cell or chamchamber D; the remaining unsecured portion of the cell or chamber C, containing the thumb opening H, is then secured to the side of the body A, except the upper portion thereof confine myself to the constructions herein shown as various other modes may be adopted without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Within the cell or chamber C. formed by the bending of the strip of metal A. is placed a strip of tickets G. the same being rolled up in the manner shown before being inserted within the said cell or chamber, and one end pears at the thumb opening II. provided in the side of the shell as shown in the side View Fig. l. The cell or chamber D. in this construction is intended for the reception of small matches Vhen matches are not to be carried in the chamber D. the same may be used for storing additional tickets, or both cases may be used for matches as desired.

The construction shown in Fig. 3. resembles that shown in Fig. 1. except that in the former the cell or chamber D. is intended for long or parlor matches, the latter being only for small matches, and in the further difference in the construction of the shell orbody A. which maybe constructed of asingle strip or of several strips of metal or other suitable material, and soldered or otherwise fastened to each other, but formed in the manner shown by the sectional View Fig. 4.

The operation of my combined match and ticket case is as follows: A strip of tickets IG. of any desired number, is rolled up in the manner shown in Figs. l and 3 and an end thereof inserted in the slot or guide-way I. and then fed along until it appears at the ber C, thereby completing the second cell or which forms the mouth of the guide way I, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.. However, I do not thereof projecting into the slot I. until it ap- ICO thumb-opening H in the side of the shell A. By placing the thumb upon that portion of the ticket so appearing at the thumb-opening H. and shoving the same forward in the direction of the arrow Fig. l. the tickets are gradually forced forward beyond the mouth 0r edge of the slot I. When the desired number of tickets is thus forced forward they are torn olf; the edge d. of the slot I. forming a convenient cutting edge in this operation, and thereby giving to the end of the strip or tickets torn off a smooth straight edge.

In the modification illustrated by Figs. 3. and 4 the shell or body A. of the case is like- Wise constructed of metal or other suitable material, but in the manner and form shown by the sectional View, Fig. 4. As this forni is intended for the reception of the larger or,par lor matches it becomes necessary to provide the ticket chamber C. with a false base or bottom J to form a proper support for the strip of tickets G. and a false cover K secured to the under side of the cover F. to protect them from accidental destruction in case the matches should ignite.

The operation in both instances for obtaining tickets is alike.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pateut, is

1. A combined match box and ticket safe, the body thereof consisting of two separate, independent cells or chambers, one of which is provided with a guide Way or slot, a cutting edge, and a thumb opening, and b oth provided With a cover and bottom, substantially as, and for the purposes set forth. l

2. A combined match box and ticket safe, the body thereof consisting of two separate, independent cells or chambers one of which is provided with a false cap secured to the under-side of the cover, and a false bottom secured within said cell or chamber, and having a ticket guide Way or slot, a cutting edge, and a thumb opening, and both provided With a cover and bottom, substantially as, and for the purposes set forth.

3. The box having the cover and bottom, and a body consisting of the cylindrical compartment and guide Way for a rolled strip of tickets, and the adjacent compartment adapted to receive matches,substantially as herein shown and described.

4. The box having the cover and bottom, and a body consisting of two independent compartments, both being accessible when the cover is thrown open, and one being provided with an escape guide Way through which tickets may be withdrawn, substantially as herein shown and described.
