Description

(No Model.)
B. L. HE-OHLB R. BOOK SUPPORT.
No. 495,585. Patented Apr. 18, 1893.
INVENTOH UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT LEE HECIILER, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
BOOK-SUPPO RT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,585, dated April 18, 1893.
Application filed May 23,1892- To an whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, ROBERT LEE HECHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of IIenrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Book-Supports; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of. the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in book supports, and it has for its objects to provide an improved device forholding one leaf of the book cover and the superimposed leaves thereof when the book is opened, in a level position while entries are being made as more fully hereinafter explained. These objects are attained by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents an open ledger with my device applied thereto; Fig. 2 a front elevation showing the means of adjusting the device and Fig. 3 a vertical cross section showing the frame in an elevated position in dotted lines.
Referring to the drawings the letterA indicates a clamp or frame constructed in two parts indicated by the letters a a which are adjustably held together bya binding screw H which clasps the juxtaposed vertical portions M, M of said frame.
The letter 0 indicates a clamping screw passing through an internally screw threaded aperture in the lower part of the clamp or frame, preferably at a point midway between its ends. The said screw is provided with a swiveled disk, at the upper end which bears against the lower side of the cover of the book and prevents abrasion thereof as the screw is turned. The lower end of the screw is provided with a milled disk or button E, by
Serial No. 434,033. (No model.)
upon a table or other support and opened at the proper place so as to bring the left hand cover thereof and its superimposed leaves into an approximately horizontal position as shown in Fig. 1. The parts of the frame A are then adjusted by means of the screw H, so that the part a will rest upon the top surface of the cover at its left hand edge and the roller G upon the top of the table. The clamping screw E is then turned up, so as to bind the device to the cover and thus hold the same in the desired position.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a book support the combination of the frame A constructed in two parts a a, the latter being provided with a roller G adapted to rest upon the surface of adesk or table, of the binding screw I-I passing through a slot in the vertical portion of the part a into athread ed aperture in the vertical portion a, and the vertical clamping screw 0 passing through the horizontal portion of the part a and provided with a swiveled disk at its upper end and adapted to clamp a book cover to the horizontal portion of the part a substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
