UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO BRUEOK, OF JERSEY CITY, NEIV JERSEY.
WASHTU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 495,390, dated April 11, 1893.
A li ati fil d December 10, 1892. Serial No. 454,766. (No model.)
.To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OTTO BRUEOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City Heights, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Washtubs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a washtub with one or more removable partitions and the object of the device is to provide each partition with an improved packing to secure tight closure when the partition is in place as set forth in the followlng specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure l is a plan view of a tub. Fig. 2 is a section along 00 a; Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a partition. Fig. 4 is a section similar to Fig. 2 showing a modification.
In the drawings the letters A A indicate the front and rear walls of the tub. B B are the side walls and O is the bottom. The tub is divided into compartments by any desired number of partitions D. One is shown in the drawings but of course more can be used. The partition D is removable and is slid into place along a suitable groove or way in the walls A and the bottom O. Said partition has a packing E consisting of a tube of soft or flexible material such as rubber. A wire or fastener F is extended through the tube and bent about the partition edges so as to hold the packing tube E seated in a suitable groove or recess running about the edges of the partition. The ends G of the wire or fastener are bent down on top of the partition and held by a slat or covering piece H screwed or fastened to the top of the partition. In Fig. 1 the slat or rail H is removed. A cutout portion I in the partition under the slat or rail H forms a grasping eye or handle for taking hold of the partition. As the wire or fastening F is inside the packing tube E the packing edge of the tube which presses against the walls A and bottom 0 will not be broken by any clamps nails or other fastenings, so that said packing edge is smooth and continuous and secures a perfect closure. The packing tube E presses itself snugly into the grooves or ways in the walls A and bottom 0 so as to form a tight closure. The tube E might be closed at the ends and provided with a small valve through which the tube might be inflated or compressed air forced into the tube to hold the latter properly distended to secure a firm packing. The tub may be made orm of a wash tub which by the removal of the partition can be converted into a'bath tub or the tub may be in form of a bath tub which by insertion of one or more partitions can be adapted for use as a wash tub.
In Fig. 4. is shown a tube E closed by a valve K allowing the tube to be inflated and to remain so for securing a firm packing.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A tub provided with a removable partition having a packing along its edge said packing consisting of a soft or flexible tube and a wire or holder extended through the tube for holding the latter to the partition substantially as described.
2. A' tub provided with a removable partition having a packing along its edge said packing consisting of a soft or flexible tube and a wire or holder extended through the tube for holding the latter to the partition and a slat or covering piece secured to the top of the partition substantially as described.
3. A tub provided with a removable partition having a packing along its edge said packing consisting of a soft or flexible tube and a wire or holder extended through the tube for holding the latter to the partition and a slat or covering piece secured to the top of the partition said partition having a cut out portion under the covering piece to form a handle substantially as described.
4. A tub provided with a removable partition having a packing along its edge said packing consisting of a soft or flexible tube inflated or filled with air and secured to the partition, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OTTO BRUEOK.
