SCRUBBING-BRUSH.

SPECIFIGATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 494,761, dated April 4, 1893.

Beit known thatl, GENEVIEVE T. V. REGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Long Branch, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Scrubbing-Brush, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an attachment for scrubbing brushes, having for its object to ro provide a simple, cheap, and effective device for attach ment to scrubbing brushes whereby dirt may be removed from corners,which cannot be reached with the brush, and whereby matter which clings to the door may be scraped olf, and with these objects in View my invention consists in a certain novel construction and combination of parts which Will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the drawings and specifically pointed out in the tze appended claim.

In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective View of a scrubbing brush provided with my cleaning attachment. Fig. 2 is asimilarview showing the cleaner folded as'when not in use.

A represents an ordinary scrubbing brush, to the back of which is attached a strip, B, carrying a metal plate, C. To the metal plate is hinged the blade, D, tapered orsharpcned to a point at its free end. The hingejoint, E, is set back from the end of the strip,

B, so that when the blade is extended, as

shown in Fig. l, it lies in contact with the said extension of the strip.

F represents a retaining hook, which is pivotally connected to the brush, near one end of the strip, and adapted, when the blade is folded as shown in Fig. 2, to lie across the same and engage an eye, G, uponthe opposite side, so as to hold the blade in such position. A similar retaining hook, H, is arranged near the opposite end of the strip, B, to engage an eye, I, and hold the blade in its extended or operative position.

It will be seen that my attachment is applicable to any ordinary scrubbing brush, and may be employed, as above mentioned to clean dirt from cracks, corners, and from surfaces Where it cannot be reached or cannot be removed by the ordinary means. The blade, when extended is parallel with the back of the brush whereby the latter forms ahandle, and when folded the blade lies close to the back of the brush and is thus held out of the Way.

Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

In combination with a scrubbing-brush, a plate C iiXed to the back of the brush, ablade D hinged to said plate, a hook H to hold the blade in its open or extended position, and a hook F to lock the same in its folded position, substantially as described.
