DUST-PAN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 14, 1910.
Application filed January 15, 1907. Serial No. 352,445.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARGHBALD ARM- STRONG, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at lVaterville, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Pans, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dust-pans and has for its object the improvement of dust-pans by leaving one side open at its rear so that the contents of dirt, scraps, etc., may be quickly and cleanly dumped into a suitable vessel or into the ordinary hole of a kitchen range.
The construction and advantages of my invention will be explained in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a View in perspective of my improved dust pan, and Fig. 2, a detail of the blank from which the receptacle of my dust-pan is made.
In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the views.
The receptacle of my improved dust-pan is made of a single piece of sheet metal shown in Fig. 2 and has the sides formed of wings A and B extending at the sides of the base portion C and turned up perpendicularly to said base and secured to a turned over portion D forming a hood over constituting with the base a receptacle E for holding the dust and sweepings. The wing A is shorter than the wing B so as to leave an opening C at the side of the receptacle E through which dirt, dust, and other sweepings may be dumped from said receptacle.
Having thus described my invention what claim is A dust-pan made of a single piece of sheet metal having a base portion, two side wings turned perpendicular to said base portion, one of said wings being shorter than the other wing, the longer wing having its rear end curved, and an extended portion of the base turned back on itself and having one side edge secured to the curved rear end and the upper edge of the longer of said side wings throughout the length of said extended portion, the opposite side edge of said extended portion being unengaged except at its conjunction with the front edge of said turned back portion where it is secured to the rear end of the shorter of said side wings, said base, turned back portion and side wings forming a receptacle for sweepings open at one side for emptying said receptacle.
In testimony whereof I hereto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ARGHIBALD ARMSTRONG.
