Be it known that I, FRANK SrssoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'alloomsack, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York,'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in Scrapers for machinists use, the object being to provide a simple and inexpensive tool for removing accumulations of oil, dirt, packing, &c., from parts of engines and machinery and to so construct the tool as to adapt it for removing the incrustations from parts inaccessibleto the scrapers of ordinary construction.

To the accomplishment of this end my invention consists in a tool embodyingr certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts Vhereinafter more fully described, and specically set forth in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of a tool embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section al view, Fig. t is a detail perspective view of the toolhandle.

Like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates the scraper-blade, formed with a substantially horizontal lower edge beveled to a point at its oppositesides to form a cutting or scraping edge la, adapted for use on broad surfaces. The front end 2 of the blade inclines inwardly and is beveled to form a cutting edge, and this causes the formation of a point 3 at the intersection of the lower horizontal edge and said front edge, which is adapted especially for use in removing'accumulations from openings, grooves, and oilslots, the rear edge 4 of the blade being curved,

as shown, so as to adapt it especially for useA upon concave surfaces. U

The plate is formed with a crown-point or upper attaching extremity 5, provided with an opening 6. This attaching-point is formed by the inward curvature of the two ends of the scraper-blade, and as the attaching eX- tremity is of less length than the blade the said inwardly-curved edge of the scraper forms

The numeral .9 designates the tool-handle', which consists of a metal socket 10 t0 receive a wooden handle ll, provided with a bifurcated or slotted extremity l2, forming jaws 13, adapted to receive the attaching extremity of the scraper-blade. These jaws are angularly disposed, as shown, and are provided with openings 14, and the upper end of the slotted portion thereof terminates in a curved shoulder 15, adapted to rest upon the supporting-shoulder 7 of the blade, as hereinafter described. The blade and handle are connectedby means of a screw-16, passed through the said opening in the blade and the openings in the jaws, and is adapted to draw upon the said jaws and cause them to tightly bind against the blade. This construction of blade and jaws enables the handle to be adjusted to a horizontal position at either side ofl the attaching extremity or to assume a vertical position, so as to enable the scraper to be handled with convenience to suit the structure and arrangement of the part being scraped.

I do not care to limit my invention to the special construction and arrangement of parts herein shown and described, but reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
