UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE;
JOHN ARVID SAMUEL BOHLIN; OF STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN.
PROTECTOR FOR POCKETBOOKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 492,911, dated March '7, 1893.
Application filed November 8,1892. Serial No- 51,283- (No model.)
This invention relates to a new and improved safety attachment forholding pocketbooks, memorandum books, &c.,in the pocket in such a manner as to prevent the same from dropping out by accident, and also to render it more difficult to steal the same from the pocket. This device is very simple in construction, is cheap, occupies very little space, it can easily be applied in the pocket and can easily be opened to permit of removing the pocketbook or closed for replacing the same, and when closed holds said pocketbook firmly and securely.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front View of my improved safety-attachment for pocketbooks. Fig. 2 is a side-view, and Fig. 3 is-a top-view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
To the upper end of a strip of metal or other suitable materialaan approximately L-shaped win g b is hinged at 0, which wing 19 is provided at its hinged end with a lug 1), against which the upper end of a spring 61 rests, that is secured at its lower end to the plate a. A second spring f, which is approximately U- shaped, is also fastened to the plate a by riv-' ets e e, and at or near its lower free end carries two short prongs g g, the points of which can enter apertures h h in the lower part of the plate a. The wing 12 is provided at its top with an opening biinto which the upper end of the spring (1 can pass when the said wing 11 is raised. The lower end of the springfis to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2,
in which position it is held by the spring d. Whenever it is necessary to use the pocketbook, &c., the wing b is swung up to the position shown in dotted lines, in which it is also held by the spring at when the said pocketbook, 600., can be removed. After use, the pocketbook is replaced in the pocket and the Wing b is swung down and holds it securely in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A safety attachment for pocket-books and the like, consisting of a plate, a curved wing hinged to the upper end of said plate and provided with a lug, a spring on said plate bearing against said lug, an approximately U -shaped holding spring attached to the plate and provided near its free end with prongs, which spring serves for holding the plate in the edge of the pocket, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing a my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN ARVID SAMUEL BOI-ILIN.
