SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 492,085, dated February 21, 1893.
Application filed November 14, 1891. Serial No. 411,841. (No model.) r (J t To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWIN O. BUCK and WILLIAM M. BARNES, citizens of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention has for its object the prod uction of a tag which can be attached to articles and hold them to the tag firmly. This tag is especially adapted for laundry work for indicating the ownership of the article to be washed, or may be attached to any goods for the purpose of indicating.
We will now describe the preferred form of embodiment of our improvement.
In thedrawingsFigure 1 represents a perspective view of our improved tag ready for use. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of our improved tag in use. Fig. 3 represents a perspective front View of our improved tag in use.
A is a metal strip,preferably zinc, although any other flexible metal may be used. One end of this strip is turned over, as represented at B, to form a guard, and the other end of the strip is provided with serrations or teeth, 0, 0. Intermediate, a portion of the metal is struck up, forming a tooth D.
E is a piece of material or article to which the tag is to be attach (d. The strip A is bent so that the teethd3 ass through the ma terial and rest under the guard B, while the tooth D passes also into the material. The other portion of the strip A, which is covered with linen or muslin, or any other suitable 1 material, is upon the opposite side of the material; and upon the linen or muslin surface may be written any characters or shown in Fig. 3. The teeth i 8 by passing into the material and under the guard, hold the material and tag together, and the tooth D prevents the material between the tag faces rolling up; so that an article with this tag on may be washed and ironed without any detriment to the goods.
Having now fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a tag, toothed at one end and bent or folded over at its other end to forma guard,said tag being provided with an intermediate tooth projecting therefrom and covered by a sleeve of cloth or similar material, substantially as described.
