TAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,581, dated February 14, 1893.
Application filed October 29, 1892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES B. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Tags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for holdingtags or tickets; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of the holder, showing it closed. Fig. 2 is an Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the holder, showing it partly open. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the holder.
A is the back of the holder provided with sides a, and B is the lid of the holder fitting between the sides a and connected to the bottom of the back by the hinge b. The lid is formed with an offset portion 2 at its upper end so that a space 3 is left between the lid and the back, between the sides a.
C is a card or ticket bearing any desired printed'or written information, such as a name and address. This ticket is placed between the sides a and is secured from injury by the lid B which shuts down upon it. The outside of the lid may also have any desired information stamped or engraved upon it, such as Address inside, for instance. The offset portion 2 of the lid has two slots t and 5 in it.
The back has a slot 6 which registers with the Serial No. 450,366. (No model.)
slot 4:, and a pressed-up projection 7 which passes through the slot 5, when the lid is closed. The back A has also a pressed-down projection 8 at its front edge. WVhen the lid and back are pressed together two narrow passages 9 and 10 are formed between the projections 7 and 8 and the part 2 of the lid.
D is a strap or band for securing the parts of the tag together and to any desired object. The strap D is passed through the passages 9 and 10 and through the slots 4 and 6, so that the lid cannot be opened to expose the ticket without first removing the strap.
I do not confine myself to the precise arrangement of slots and projections shown for securing the lid to the back, as these may be varied in shape and position, but I prefer to arrange them as shown as the same is very simple and satisfactory.
W'hat I claim is:
In a tag-holder the combination, with the back provided with sides, the slot 6 and the projections 7 and 8,0f the lid hinged to the back and provided with the slot 4. registering with the slot 6 and a slot 5 for the projection 7 to pass through, and a strap adapted to pass through the said projections and the slots 4; and 6 and secure the back and lid together, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
