To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN W. BLAOKLEDGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

My said invention consists in certain improvements upon that for which Letters Patent of the United States No. 405,003 were granted me, dated June ll, 1889, and it consists in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and on which Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure l is a side elevation of a show case embodying my said invention; Fig. 2 a central sectional View of the same;v Fig. 3 a top or plan View; Fig. 4. a horizontal sectional view near the bottom or lower end, and Fig. 5 a central View through one of the drawers.

In said drawings the portions marked A represent the frame-work of my improved show case; B a base on which the same is mounted and adapted to be revolved, and C the swinging receptacles.

The frame A, I prefer to make circular or semi-circular in form, as shown. It consists of a top and bottom, united by two partitions, which cross each other or are united at the center as shown most plainly in Fig. 4t. Shelves A are arranged at suitable intervals between the top and the bottom, and between these shelves are the spaces in which the swinging receptacles C are intended to be placed. The frame may be surmounted by standards and a railing, as shown, and ornamented with moldings, carving and other decorations if desired, the intention being to provide an ornamental case for use in exhibiting samples of goods and such like articles.

The base B is formed fiat, and is preferably of less diameter than the case itself, as shown, and is p rovided with a pivot-standard B which extends up in a central position in the case, and comes in contact with the bearing c. The most of the weight of the case is thus supported, and said case is enabled to turn freely on the pivot which said standard forms. Anti-friction rollers Z) are provided near the sides of the bottom, which prevent any tipping of the case, and upon which a portion of the weight of the case rests when one side is loaded heavier than another.

The receptacles C are in many respects similar to those shown in the aforementioned patent. Each one is now,however, supported by a shelf fixed rmly in the frame-work, instead cf depending altogether on the pivotrod as before. They are thus enabled to be litted more closely in position, resulting in their being more tightly closed when shut, and they are more firmly sustained than before. The receptacles are now in substantially the form of a sector of a circle, pivoted or hinged at one of the outer corners by pivot-rods C or otherwise, andV having handles or operating catches c at the opposite corners.. The inner corners are preferably cut off somewhat, as shown, or iiattened, for convenience. IVhere the pivot rod C passes through the side of the drawer near the corner small plates c are placed, which strengthen the sides, and form better bearings forsaid pivot-rods. The fronts of these receptacles are of glass, and have a curvature approximating the general contour of the case, and said fronts are seated in rabbets in the sides and bottom, and after being placed in position are preferably covered with moldings c2. The upper front portions of the receptacles are secured together, and the upper edges of the glass fronts inclosed, by a metal `strip C2 which for nearly its entire length is bent over to inclose the upper edge of the glass, and then continued on straight, and bent around the upperfront corners of the drawers, where it is secured by small screws. This not only forms a frame for the upper edge of the glass, but it also secures the drawers together very firmly, and it is also neat and inexpensive.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a show case, the combination with a frame divided by vertical partitions, and the spaces between which partitions are divided by horizontal partitions or shelves, of receptacles hinged at one front corner and filling the spaces between the partitions and shelves, as shown, when closed, and adapted to be swung out and display the goods therein, said ICO case as a Whole being mounted on a central pivot and adapted to be turned to bring any set of receptacles to the front, all substantially as shown and described and for the purpose as specified.

2. In a show case, swinging receptacles in the form of a sector of a circle, the fronts whereof are of glass, seated at the bottom and ends in rabbets in the bottom and sides of the receptacle, and provided at the top with a metal edge piece bent over and inclosing the upper 4edge of the glass and extending around and secured to the sides, thus protecting both 4. A show case consisting of the frame divided into equal Vertical compartments by partitions which meet at a common central point, said vertical compartments being divided by horizontal shelves or partitions, the spaces between Which are filled by a receptacle hinged at one of its front corners and provided With a glass front, substantially as set forth.

5. The combination, in a show case, of a circular frame divided into equal parts by vertical partitions, which parts are again divided by horizontal partitions, and fan-shaped receptacles pivoted therein by one corner, the fronts of which are in the form of arcs of circles, whereby, when said receptacles are closed, a complete circular structure is produced, substantially as shown and described.
