Description

(No Model.)
J. NOLAND.
DOOR SEGURBR. No. 489,230. Patented Jan. 3, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.lOI-IN NOLAND, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DOOR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,230, dated January 3, 1893. Application filed April 21, 1892- Serial No. 430,139. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOHN NOLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved portable door lock, and consists in certain details of construction, and combination of parts as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved portable door lock, which is constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
To construct a doorlock in accordance with my invention I provide a bar 3 having a hooked end 4, and a slot 12 extending in the direction of the length of the same, larger at one end than the other. Operating within this slot 12 is a link, consistingof atriangular portion 5 and two straight arms 6 secured together by a rivet 7. This link is capable of being moved back to occupy a position such as shown by dotted lines at Fig. 1 on the drawings, and also revolved to a position such as seen at Fig. 2. Pivoted at the rear of the bar 3, is a rod or ,brace 9 having a point capable of grasping or engaging with the jamb 2 of the door 1, and prevent a side movement of the bar 3, should a strain be brought against the triangular end of the link, by some person endeavoring to open the door 1. T0 attach this portable lock in position,I place the hook4 between the door and the jamb, having first moved the link back as shown in dotted lines at Fig. 1 on the drawings. The door is now forced shut which will force the hook t into the wood. The link is now moved into position and dropped over the shoulder 10, of the slot 12, and the rivet 9 over the shoulder 11, which will prevent the door from being opened from the outside.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent 1s;
The herein described door lock, consisting of the slotted bar 3, the triangular link 5 capable of moving in the direction of the length of the bar, or be locked at a certain position thereon, and a bar or brace 9 pivoted to the one end of the device adapted to engagewith the jamb of the door to form a brace, all arranged and combined for service, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto atfix my signature this 14th day of April, A. D. 1892.
JOHN NOLAND. [n s.]
In presence of- ALBERT J. WALKER, M. E. HARRISON.
