UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE DE BRETON HAYES, OF GHETEK, \VISOONSIN.
COMBINED BUCKLE AND SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,325, dated December 6, 1892..
Application filed May 14, 1892- Serial No. 432,946. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE DE BRETON HAYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chetek, in the county of Barron and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Buckle and Snap-Hook; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inventi0n,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The special object of the invention is to make a combined buckle and snap-hook without spring or other attachments liable to break or get out of order, and which may be as easily attached or detached as the old snap, while it can be more easily handled in cold weather by a gloved hand.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention attached to a strap; Fig. 2, a detail view of the buckle-frame; Fig. 3, a detail side elevation of the hook and buckle-tongue in one piece.
In the drawings, A represents the buckleframe, which has the crossloop a to receive the strap B, the latter being then passed through the strap-buckle C and keeper D in the usual way. The buckle-frame is also provided with a longitudinal loop 0/, separated from the cross-loop a by the round crossbar a E is an ordinary hook, whichis provided in its shank with the transverse pole or bearing e through which passes the buckle-frame cross-bar or pivot a In the rear of the hearing 6 is the buckle-tongue e, which enters one hole only of the strap B, while the buckle frame turns in the bearing 6 with its crossbar a 6 is the finger-stud on the outer curve of the hook, by which the latter may be pressed in one direction while the buckle frame is pressed in an opposite one, so that the ring or link may be attached to or removed from the hook.
The fold of theleather exerts sufficien't force to keep the buckle frame and tongue together at the rear, and consequently the hook and buckle-frame together in front, while any strain on the hook only makes the buckleframe hug it more closely.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understandingof theinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A combined snap-hook and buckle consisting of frame A, having cross-loop a, longitudinal loop a, and crossbar or pivot a and the hook E, having the tongue 6 and bearing 6 for the pivot a the frame and hook being relatively constructed and arranged to operate together in the manner described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE DE BRETON HAYES.
