COMBINED INK-BOTTLE HOLDER AND PEN-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,498, dated October 18, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, JOHN ROBERT GREER and WILLIAM DAvIs THOMAS, citizens of the United States, residing at Auxvasse, in the county of Oallaway and State of Missouri,have invented a new and useful Combination Ink- Bottle Holder and Pen-Rack, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in ink-bottle holders and pen-racks.

The object of the present invention is to provide a device adapted for holding pens and capable of securely maintaining an inkbottle in a vertical position to prevent the ink-bottle upsetting.

The invention consists in'the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the. accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

The figure of the drawing is a perspective view of a combined pen-rack and ink-bottle holder constructed in accordance with this invention.

Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding'parts in all the figures of the drawmg.

1 designates a spring-tongue provided at its front end with a securing-loop 2, adapted to receive an ink-bottle 3 and to hold the same firmly upon a supporting-base 4 to prevent the ink-bottle upsetting. The spring-tongue is provided at its rear end with diverging arms 5, which are connected with the securing-loop 2 by a twisted portion 6, and the securing-tongue is constructed of a single piece of wire and obtains its spring from coils 7, arranged at the outer ends of the diverging .arms, and theends 8 of the wire are bent angularly and are secured by staples or the like upon the base 4 at opposite sides thereof. The pen-rack consists of a horizontal coil 9, which is supported by vertical legs 10 and is formed integral with the wire of the springaotuated tongue and is an extension of one of the angularly-bent portions 8. The horizontal pen-rack coil is supported by an approximately-rectangular brace 11, consisting of a transverse portion 12, secured to the base in advance of the coil, and upwardly-extending sides 13, having their upper ends bent outward and secured by soldering or other suitable means to lateral extensions 14 at the ends of the coil.

It will be seen that the device is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction, that it forms a convenient and rigid pen-rack, and that it is capable of securely holding an ink-bottle upon a supporting-surface to prevent the ipk-bottle upsetting.

What wle claim is 1. The cbmbination of a base and a springactuated securing-tongue having a circular loop at its free end adapted to receive the upper portion of an ink-bottle, whereby the latter is clamped upon the base, substantially as described.

2. The combination of a supporting-base, a spring-actuated securing-tongue provided with an ink-bottle-receiving loop at its free end and having diverging arms at its other end, coils 7, secured to the base and forming an extension of the diverging arms, and a horizontal coil forming a pen-rack and provided with supporting-legs and formed integral with the securing-tongue, substantially as described. 3. The combination of a supporting-base, a securing-tongue constructed of wire and provided at one end with an ink-bottle-re ceiving loop and at the other end with diverging arms, and having an intermediate twisted portion, coils arranged at the outer ends of the arms and having angular extensions secured to the base, a horizontal penrack coil having lateral extensions, legs supporting the coil, and an approximately-rectangular loop secured to the base in advance of the horizontal coil and having its sides secured at the ends of the coil, substantially as described.
