SUSPENDER-BUCKLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,274, dated October 11, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ROBERT M. WILSON, of Newberry, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender- Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

Myinvention relates to an improvement in Suspender-buckles; and it consists in certain novel features of construction which will be fully described, and more particularly referred to in the annexed claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved buckle, the suspender-strap being clamped therein. Fig. 2 is asimilar view, the strap being released. Fig. 3 is aside view of the position shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is aside view of the position shown in Fig. 2.

A represents the sides, and B the top, of the main frame of the buckle.' The lower connecting-bar C is bent downward to form a loop D, and is projected slightly forward,-as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Secured across the sides A, midway their length, is the outwardly-curved plate E, having the concave inner bearing-surface, as shown. Hinged to the upper bar B and formed of a single piece of wire is the clamping portion of the buckle, which consists, essentially, of an inner pressure-bar F and an outward and downwardly extending frame G. The side portions H of the portions F and G are coiled between their ends around the bar B, thus forming a hinge or bearing upon which the said portions turn or bear. These portions are formed of spring- Wire of suitable strength, so that when the portion G is pushed inward the bar F will bear tightly against the concave plate E, securely clamping the buckle in position on the Suspender-strap. The lower extremity of the portion G is formed into a hook I, which is pushed inward through the loop D, and placed within the said hook, back of the loop portion, is a ring J, which has the short strap-sections K attached thereto. It will be readily understood that by this construction the bar F is held tightly against the suspender-strap and can only be released by pushing upward the ring J, so as to release the hook I from its position behind the loop portion D.

In a buckle of the above-described construction the parts are few and the operation of the same is simple, yet it is most eifective in accomplishing the end desired and the purpose for which it is constructed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The combination, with a main frame provided with a crossbar between its ends, of the spring-frames F H, which are pivoted and depend from the upper end of the main frame, at which point the said pivoted frames are rigid with each other, the frame B being adapted to bear inward against the said crossbar, and a means for securing the lower end of the frame II to main frame, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a Suspender-buckle, the combination, with a main frame formed with a depending loop D and a cross-bar secured to the said frame between its ends, of a clamping device consisting of a frame doubled upon itself and hinged to the main frame at the doubled point, the inner end of the frame being adapted to bear against the said cross-bar, a hook formed on the outer end of the said clamping-frame and which swings inward through the loop D, and a means for holding the said hook behind the loop, substantially as described.
