IMPROVED SECTIONAL FOLDING BOAT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,342, dated June 20, 1865; antedated June 15, i865.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known thatwe, JOSEPH H. LANING and VERON FLETCHER, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State lof Pennsylvania, have invented a newand Improved Mode of Constructing Folding-Up Boats; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the aecornpanying drawings, making part ofthis specication, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section Vof the boat open. Fig.2 indicates said section closed. Fig. 3 indicates a transverse section of bow open, showing a hulk-head. Fig. 4. is a view of Fig. 3 closed, minus the bulk-head. Fig. 5

Y The open or adjusted position of the boats built upon this plan will be maintained 0r kept intact by the several seats, cnt fitting for that purpose, which must be removed from their beds when the boatis to be folded up.
`Boats built upon this plan can he of any shape and size.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure to our assi gnee by Letters Patent, is-
1 The peculiar manner of constructing boats of movable and adjustable sections, so connected with hinges, part thereof affixed on the inside of the boat and part thereof on the outside, so as tomove in harmony with each other,
whereby the boat can be opened and closed at will.
2. The combination of hinges, vulcanized indiatubing and movable and adjustable sections, for the purpose as hereinbei'ore more fully set forth, and substantially as described in both clauses.
