ISSIIGN.
F. MANKEY.
PANEL. l I0. 16,226. Patented Sept. 8, 188! UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK MANKEY, OF VVILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A PANEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,226, dated September 8.1885.
Application filed July 1B, 1885.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK MANKEY, of Williamsport, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Surface Ornamcutation of Walls, the same consisting of a panel, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying photographs, form ing part hereof.
Figure l is a panel upon which is formed my new design. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My design includes both the configuration or pattern hereinafter described, and also on the surface of the raised portions of said pattern an appearance of the grain different from that which is seen on the iiat or non-elevated parts of the pattern. The exact appearance of the grain on said elevated portion cannot, of course, be limited to any specific arrangement of markings, inasmuch as the appearance of the grain will constantly vary.
My design consists in a series of raised bars, A, produced upon the surface of the panels. Said bars have upper rounded surfaces, B, and are separated by channels C, rectangular in Term of patent 7 years.
crosssection. The said bars A are formed of the material of the panel, and are disposed at 3c right angles to the natural direction of the grain of said panel. By reason of the shape of said bars and their position with reference to the direction ofthe grain, a different appearance of grain markings exists on the surface of said bars `from that which is seen at the bottom of the channels G. Thus the grain within the channels is shown on the annexed photographs as longitudinal and substantially straight, while on the surface of the bars it is more or less curved and variegated.
I claim The design for surface ornamentation of Walls, the same consisting of a panel herein shown and described, the sarne consisting in a series of raised bars, A, extending transversely, said panel having rounded upper surface and intermediate channels. C, the surfaces of said bars exhibiting a different ap pearance of grain from the bottom portions 5o of said channels.
FREDERICK MANKEY.
