Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TO CHARLES S. PALMER,
OF NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.
bADJUSTABLE I lNK.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,661, dated December 19, 1865.
To all whom 'tmay concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK PEEIEFER, of Giesborough, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Open Link toAttach or Connect Chains; and I do hereby declare the following to be an eXactdescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention is an open link formed of four hooked ends operating on a pivot at their centers.
AFigure 1 exhibits a View of the link as closed 5 Fig. 2, a side view; Fig. 3, the link open.
A represents the straight part of each link, rounding at their centers, with eyes Working upon a pivot, B. The ends C C are attened and hook-shaped, and so curved and bent that when closed the ends of the hooks rest against the straight side of the opposite link, and the ends of the hooks being opposite to each other, forming a strong and adjustable link, easily and quickly opened and closed, thus having a decided advantage for connecting or attach ing traces, chains, Src., with rapidity, and forming alink ofexceedin g neatness, of any required size, and especially useful for heavy chains, whereby a chain can be lengthened or shortened with the utmost rapidity. e
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The shape and construction of the open link formed by the combination of four hooks operating on a center pivot, as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
FRANK PFEIFFER.
