Description

(No-Model.) v
G. G. GALDE'RWOOD.
STOVEPIPE No. 483,207. Patented Sept. 27, 1892,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE G. OALDERWOOD, OF BIDDEFORD, MAINE.
S T O V E P I P E SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,207, dated September 27, 1892.
Application filed May 9, 1892. Serial No. 432360. (No model.)
To (ZZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. CALDER- WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Biddeford, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Stovepipe, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in stovepipes.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of stovepipes and to dispense with elbows and to enable stovepipes without the use of. elbows to be adjusted to suit chimney-openings of diiferent heights.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stovepipe constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a back Stovepipe, provided at its rear side with an opening and having arranged wit-hin it a rectangular frame 2, upon which is mounted an adjustable plate 3, which is provided with a collar 4, projecting ontward through the opening of the frame. The plate 3 is adapted to be raised or lowered to vary the height of the collar to bring the same opposite a chimney-opening and to enable the collar to be connected with the chimney-opening by a straight horizontal pipe, thereby avoiding the necessity of employing elbows. The rectangular frame is provided with an inwardly-extending flange 5, on which is arranged the adjustable plate, which is provided at its edges with longitudinal slots and which is secured in its adjustment by setscrews 7, which are arranged in the slots. The adjustment of the collar is limited by the length of the opening, and to enable a great amount of adjustment to be obtained and a short slide to be employed a cap or plate 8 is used. The cap or plate is reversible, being adapted to be secured at either end of the rectangularframe, and it closes any space which might be between the slide and the frame. It is provided at its inner end with an inwardly-extending flange, which fits against the slide and makes a tight joint.
It will be seen that a stove having a pipe constructed in accordance with this invention may be readily connected with any chimney-opening within the limit of the adjustment of the collar.
hat I claim is- The combination of a Stovepipe provided with a vertical opening, a rectangular frame having an inwardly-extending flange, a plate arranged within the Stovepipe and on the flange and provided with an outwardly-projecting collar extending through the frame and adapted to be adjusted therein, said plate being provided with slots, set-screws arranged within the slots and securing the plate in its adjustment, and a reversible cap or plate provided with an inwardly-extending flange and adapted to be secured at either end of the frame, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affiXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE G. CALDERW'OOD.
