Description

oooooooo DDDD 0E FOR SU RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR IN G V E S SE NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH MAILLIARD, OF SAN GERONIMO, AND JAMES H. JONES, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DEVICE FOR SUPPORTING AND CARRYING VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,643, dated September 13, 1892. Application led December 9, 1891. Serial No. 414,527. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern.'
Beit known that we, JOSEPH MAILLIAED, of San Geronimo, county of Marin, and JAMES H. JONES, of San Francisco, county of San Francisco, State of California, citizens of the United States, have invented a new and useful Device for Supporting and Carrying Vessels, such as are employed as packages for petroleum, oils, paints, or other substances and for other purposes; and We hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of our invention, reference being had to the drawings herewitlnforining a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to a device for supporting packing vessels or cans which are used for various domestic purposes, in order that they may be more conveniently and safely handled, the object being to provide a simple and efficient device for the purpose indicated; and the invention therefore consists inthe construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a perspective elevation of one of our improved supportingr devices applied to a rectangular can or case of the kind commonly employed for liquids. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the frame or support when folded, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of Fig. 2.
A is a vessel or can, such as is commonly employed as packages for liquids.
B is a metal band or hoop made large enough to tit over the end of the can A. Cis another band or stirrup, also made of thin metal, that passes down the sides and around the bottom of the can A, overlapping the band B at both sides, where the tWo are joined by a rivet or pin E, as shown in the drawings. On these same pins or rivets is attached at each side a handle or bail D, that spans the frame and top of the can in the usual manner of portable vessels. The pin or rivet E is made loose enough to permit a free movement of the bail D When the device is in use, Ior in case of packing, storing, or shipping the completed frames they can be folded, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
When the frame is put into use, no preparation is required but to open it out into the position shown in Fig. l and insert the can A.
Having thus explained the nature and objects of our invention and the method of constructing and applying the same, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described device for supporting and carrying vessels, consisting of a rectangular band or hoop B, a second band or hoop C, the ends of whose side pieces are pivoted to the band B at the middle points of two opposite sides thereof, so that the hoops B and C may be relatively movable upon their pivotal points to permit them to occupy either a position in the same plane with each other or in a position at right angles to each other, substantially as shown, and a handle or bail D, Whose ends are pivoted upon the same pivots which connect the hoops B and C, said bail being so arranged that it will span the frame and top of the can which is to be supported, `substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto affixed our signatures in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOSEPH MAILLIARD. JAMES H. JONES.
