G. SGHLERETH & M. KATZENBERG.
FOLDING BOTTLE BASKET. I
No. 430,255. Patented June- 17, 1890.
wmwm 72.713126211136794 354 444 01 Gimme/11 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORGE SCHLERETH AND MILTON KATZENBERG, OF ALBUQUERQUE, TERRITORY OF NEW MEXIOO.
FOLD l NG BOTTLE-BASKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,255, dated June 17, 1890.
Application filed March 4, 1890. Serial No. 342,599. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, GEORGE SOHLERETH and MILTON KATZENBERG, citizens of the United States, residing at Albuquerque, in the county of Bernalillo and Territory of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Bottle-Baskets; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will-enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in portable folding baskets for bottles; and it has for its object to generally improve upon the construction and to render more durable and efficient in use this class of inventions.
To the above ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists in the peculiar construction and in the novel combination, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form apart of this specification, like letters of reference indicating like parts throughout the several views, and in which drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a basket constructed in accordance with my invention,
the same being shown as open or in readiness to receive the bottles. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the basket as it appears when folded and in readiness for storing or transportation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the basket, which is made of a series of strips of sheet metal so connected as to produce abasket divided into a series of compartments each adapted to receive a single bottle. In the present instance we have shown a basket provided with six compartments; but it will be at once evident that the size of the basket and the number of compartments may be varied without departing from the spirit of our invention. I
B is a heavy strip of sheet metal, which extends longitudinally beneath the center of the basket, the ends of said strip being turned upward at right angles to the body of the strip, as shown at B, and to the outer faces of these upwardly-extended ends are riveted or otherwise secured the lower ends of the strips 0, which strips extend vertically at the ends of the basket, and at a point some distance above the upper edge of the basket they are bent inwardly, and their ends are secured to the ends of the handle 0, which handle may be of either wood or metal, and is similar in all respects to the handles which are commonly used upon pails.
D D are strips of sheet metal pivoted at their ends to the vertical strips 0 at the ends of the basket by means of pivots a, and from the said strips are bent so as to confornrto the shape of the basket desired. These strlps are arranged in pairs upon opposite sides of the vertical strips 0, the inner ends of the strips in each pair being pivoted upon a common pivot.
E E are strips of metal, the ends of which are secured to the inner faces of the vertical strips 0, and the said strips E are twisted at intervals, so as to form the alternating horizontal and vertical portions E and E The horizontal portions E of the several strips E present together two or more series of horizontal surfaces, one directly above the other, throughout the longitudinal center of the basket, and at the longitudinal center of each of these horizontal portions is provided a vertical ear E to which ears are pivotally secured the inner ends of the arms F, the 0pposite' ends of which arms are soldered or otherwise secured to the inner faces of the strips D, the said arms thus serving to both strengthen the basket and also as divisions between the several compartments.
The vertical spaces E of the strips Eare connected by means of vertical strips G, the lower ends of which strips are securely soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the upper face of the central bottom strip of the basket. The bottom is provided with intermediate strips B as'shown in Fig. 1.
It will be seen that a basket constructed in accordance with our invention will be inexpensive and may be easily constructed. It will serve to securely hold in place the bottles, and when not in use the device may be folded within asmall compass for convenience in storage or transportation.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is t 1. A portable folding bottle-basket composed of strips connected to form a rectangular subdivided basket, the transverse strips of which are pivotally connected at the 1ongitudinal center, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The portable folding bottle-basket described, composed of a plurality of cross and longitudinal strips, a central longitudinal strip arranged at the bottom, with the crossstrips pivoted thereto, and a handle connected to said central strip and having the crossstrips pivoted thereto, substantially as shown and described.
3. The portable folding bottle-basket herein vdescribed, composed of the central longitudi-
