To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADOLPHE BOUCHARD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at St. Elmo, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jackets or Vaists; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention has relation to improvements in wearing-apparel; and the object is to provide a knit or woven body-garment with attachments whereby it may be held to the form between prominent and projecting parts of the person. It is well known that knit or woven body-garments-such as jerseysstretch straight across the bust, showing only the front and outside contour.

It is the purpose of my invention to tix means to the jersey whereby it will be held in and against the corset between the busts, and it is particularly applicable to be associated with corsets or underwaists which have bowlshaped recesses to hold the busts separated and in natural position.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective of a figure showing a jersey iitted thereto and held in between the busts by my attachment. Fig. 2 is a detail View showing the invention.

A designates a knit or woven jersey, and B a corset or underwaist. The corset edges are held together by the usual front stays. To the button-edge of the jersey, on the under side, a sheath l is secured by stitching the vertical edges to the material. This sheath is ot the proper length and extends from a point about on aline with the top of the busts to a short distance below, or just above the waist-line, substantially as shown in the drawings. In this sheath is arranged a metal spring, whalebone, or feather-bone 2 of such iiexibility as to readily adapt itself to the vertical contour of the person. On this spring are fastened a number of hooks 3, arranged on the spring to engage in the material of the corset, the purpose being to provide a means for holding the spring down against the corset, and thus to carry the material inward between the busts and give the front the true vertical contour of therperson and to make the jersey between the busts also set to the contour of the inner portions of the breasts and keep them apart in natural position and relation. By means of this spring attachment the front of the jersey is given the shape of the corset.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A jacket or waist formed with a verticallyarranged sheath on its inside under the button-line of its meeting edges, a spring arranged in the sheath, and hooks on the spring arranged and adapted to engage an undergarment and hold the spring and j acket close thereto, substantially as specified.
