CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,400, dated January 12, 1904.
' Application led October 23, 1902. Serial No. 128,460. (No model.)
i To all whom it 17e/ty concern.
Be it known that I, EMILIE PoHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Corset, of which the following is a specification. l
My invention relates to improvements in corsets, particularly in that class known as the straight-front corset, and is designed especially for Women having generous abdominal proportions; and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide an abdominal retainer, and especially one thatbrings the draft around the back over the hips and not to the hips, and, second, to provide a shield to prevent clothing and the corsets from wearing in v i the abdominal regions and give a at smooth appearance. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front view of the corset, showing the preferred method of securing the abi dominal retainer and shield to the corset; and
Fig. 2 is a view taken at right angles to that shown in Fig. 1.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
l is the corset-clasp.v
2 is the eyelet-back.
3 represents the stays.
4 is the abdominal retainer and shield secured to the corset-clasp at 5 and has straps 6 secured to or made integral with said abdominal retainer or shield. Said straps when drawn to the desired tension are held securely by buckle 7.
The abdominal retainer 4 may be made in two pieces, as shown in the drawings, and secured on each side of the corset-clasp, as shown at 5, or may be secured in any other portion of the abdominal regions, or it may be made in one piece and secured on one` side or the other of the abdominal regions and left free on the other side of the corset, in which event the retainer would have to be unfastened before the corsets could be loosened.
and protector to the clothing and corsets in front.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In combination, a corset, an abdominal retainer secured to the abdominal portion of said corset, and means for depressing said retainer from a point on the waist-line at the back,
without pressure on the hip portions of said corsets.
2. In combination,a corset, an abdominal retainer secured to and covering the vabdominal portion of said corset, said retainer consisting of two supporting-bands attached at their front end to each of the corset-clasps and tapering rearwardly to the proportions of a strap above the liips, and means for securing the two straps on the waist-line at the back independent of the said corset.
3. In combination,a corset, an abdominal retainer secured to and covering the abdominal portion of said corset, said retainer on each side tapering rearwardly to the proportions of a strap above the hips, and means for securing the two straps on the waist-line at the back independent of the said corset.
4. A corset having abdominal retainers secured to the corset-clasps near their lower eX- tremity, said retainers extending wholly above the hips and being provided with means for adjusting the same around the back independent of the said corset.
