NITED STATES JOHN LYE, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.
GLOVE-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 479,890, dated August 2, 1892.
Application filed February 20, 1892. Serial No. 422,329. (No model.) Patented in England May 13, 1891. No. 8,188.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN LYE, a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Sanchiehall Street, Glasgow, in the county of Lanark, Scotland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Glove-Fastenings, (which have not been patented in any country except Great Britain, by Letters Patent dated the 13th day of May, 1891, No. 8,188,) and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,.and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art or manufacture to which it relates to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fastenin gs for gloves; and it has for its object to permit of the glove to which the improved device is ap plied being drawn tight upon the wrist and arm by a simple pull upon the end of a number of cords or laces which replace the usual buttons or other fastenings.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure 1 is a view of a glove, showing the improved fastening applied. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the glove untastened, and Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are detailed views of partof the fastening.
A single button or other metallic fastening composed, for example, of a stud a on one side entering a catch 1) on the other side of the glove is applied at the wrist, and above that point on each side of the glove G, extending upward on the arm, cords or laces c are fastened, preferably, to eyelets d, fixed in the glove-leather, the alternate cords or laces or alternate pairs being fastened to opposite sides. The cords or laces pass from the one side to and through eyelets d on the opposite side, and thence loosely within a lining at e inside the glove and out through eyelets ff at the upper edges. Thence the cords or laces are passed through a ring or sleeve H, which may be made in the form of a disk or sphere or of other ornamental form, and they are knotted together at their ends, the knot I being, if desired, covered with a metallic or other ornament. To the ring, sleeve, or disk II are attached the ends of two or more cords or laces j, which are passed through the eyeletsf fat the upper edges of the glove, and are thence carried, with the fastening-laces 0, through the ring or sleeve H and tied or knotted at I with these laces. By this arrangement when the glove is on the hand and the knotted ends of the laces drawn the eyeleted edges of the glove are drawn tightly together, and the pull upon the cords or laces attached to the ring or sleeve causes the latter to slide down upon the laces toward the glove.
By turning over a cam-lever h, which bears on a spring-plate h within the sleeve H, the laces are firmly grasped between said plate and an under plate 7L2, unfastening of the glove being thereby prevented, while by raising the lever h and sliding back the ring or sleeve H by hand the lacing of the glove may be freely loosened.
Having now described the invention, what I desire to claim, and secure by Letters Pat cut, is
In combination with a glove, a plurality of laces connected therewith, a clamp arranged to slide on the said laces, and the means for automatically operating the said clamp toward the glove as the laces are drawn upon, consisting of the cords jj, attached at one end to the clamp, passing thence through a pair of eyelets on the glove, the free ends of said cords being attached to the laces, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 1st day of February, 1892.
JOHN LYE. [L. 8.]
