Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. GARY, a citizenof the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendar-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has relation in general to devices for holding calendars of the type composed of sheets or strips of paper or analogous material devoted to the respective days of the year and provided, preferably, with stubs, whereby each sheet or slip designating a day may be readily detached from its stub; and it has relation more particularly to the construction and arrangement of the parts of the holder for such a calendar.

The principal objects of my invention are, first, to provide a calendar-holder which is not only simple in construction and durable, but also comparatively inexpensive and efficient in action; second, to provide a holder with an adjustable clamping device, whereby the stubs of the calendar may be firmly held and at the same time so arranged as to be readily released for removing the stubs ad Z'ibitum, and, third, to provide an adjustable calendar-holder provided with an overhanging lip adapted to engage with the perforated stub portion of the sheets or slips constituting the calendar, whereby each of the slips may be readilysevered without leaving a rough or ragged edge along the edge of the stub portion of the calendar.

My invention consists of a calendar-holder provided with an adjustable clamping device.

My invention further consists of a calendarholderprovided with a clamping device having means connected therewith to permit of the same being readily attached to and detached from the stub portion of the calendar.

My invention further consists of a calendarholder provided with an adjustable clamping device having an overhanging lip provided with a knife-edge adapted to engage with the stub portion of each sheet or slip of the calendar, in order to allow the sheets or sl ps to be effectually severed without leaving a rough or ragged edge to the stubs thereof.

The nature, scope, and objects of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2, showing a calendar-holder embodying features of my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of the calendar-holder, showing the adjustable clamping device thereof. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section through a calendarholder embodying features of my invention and showing modified means for clamping the calendar to the holder; and Fig. 5 is an end View on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4, showing the calendar-strib-clamping plate mounted in the holder and with a detachable key for securing the clamping-plate with its overhanging lip to position in contact with the stub portion of the calendar.

Referring to the drawings, a is a rectangular-shaped skeleton metallic frame with slanting rear legs a and aiin orderthatthe frame may be at an angle to a flat surface in its normal position. In the rear portion of the frame is provided a slot Z), into which is inserted a plate 0, provided at the base thereof with feet at and d and with a central hollow and threaded bearing d The upper end of the plate 0 is provided with an overhanging lip 61*, having, preferably, a knife-edge d. The overhanging lip 61 of the recessed clamping-plate o is adapted to engage the stubs e of the sheets or slips" constituting the calendar E in a manner to be presently fully described. On the under side of the frame a, adjacent to the slot 6, is provided a lug f, with which a tightening-screw g, inserted through the internally threaded bearing d engages for holding the overhanging lip d of the recessed clamping-plate c in contact with the stub portion of the calendar, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The overhanging lip 01 provided with a knifeedge 01 permits of the severance of each slip or sheet from its stub without leaving a rough or ragged edge to the stub, as will be observed by reference to Fig. 1, and it will be observed that the lip dalso firmly holds the calendar in position on the frame a. without fear of its becoming detached therefrom by a jar or other movement of the same, whether accidental or otherwise.

The construction of holder illustrated in Fig. 4: is the same as that hereinbefore described and illustrated in Fig. 1, with the following exceptions: that the frame a is provided with integral front legs h and h, as well as rear legs a and (F. In the rear legs a and a formed integral with the frame a, are provided lips or ways t and i, with which engage the clamping-plate 0. At the rear portion on the under side of the rectangularshaped skeleton frame a, is provided a reinforce-strip a The clamping-plate c is provided with an internal flange c, and between which and the reinforce-strip (t of the frame a is inserted a readily-detachable tapering key j for locking and firmly holding the clamping-plate 0 when the calendar is m ounted 011 the frame a in contact with the stub portion thereof, as illustrated in Fig. l.

The mode of applying a calendar to and removing the same from the adj ustable holders, hereinbefore described, is as follows: The skeleton or other preferred form or shape of frame a being caused to assume on a flat surface the position as illustrated in Fig. l or Fig. 4, the clamping-plate c is raised, so that the overhanging lip (Z is brought into engagement with the stub portion e of the calendar E, whereupon the tightening-screw g is turned until the lip (Z firmly engages the stub portion 6, which thereby holds the calendar on the frame a and at the same time permits of the removal of each days slip or sheet from its stub without fear of the calendar becoming detached from the frame. By the construction illustrated in Fig. t the key, when the lip (Z is caused to engage the stub portion 6 of the calendar E, is normally pushed inward between the reinforce-strip a and the clamping-plate flange 0 whereby the calendar is firmly held to position in a similar manner as hereinbefore fully explained.

It will be manifestly obvious that as to minor details modifications may be made in the devices hereinbefore described without departing from the spirit of my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise arrangement of the parts in a calendar holder or stand as explained.

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with a calendar provided with stubs, of a holder provided with an adjustable clamping-plate adapted to engage the stub portion of the calendar, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. The combination, with a calendar, of a holder provided with a detachable clampingplate adapted to engage the upper part of the calendar and means for securing the clamping-plate to the calendar, substantially as and for the purposes described.

3. The combination, with a calendar, of a holder provided with a detachable clampingplate provided with an overhanging lip adapted to engage the upper portion of the calendar and means for securing the clamping-plate to said portion of the calendar, substantially as and for the purposes described.

4-. The combination, with a stub-calendar, of a holder provided with an adjustable recessed clamping-plate provided with an overhanging lip having a knife-edge and means for clamping said plate to said calendar, substantially as and for the purposes described. 5. The combination ofa skeleton holder, a detachable recessed clamping plate fitting said holder and having an overhanging lip, a calendar provided with stubs, andmeans for clamping the stub portion of the calendar to said holder, substantially as and for the purposes described.

6. A skeleton holder for the reception of a calendar provided with stubs, said holder provided with legs and a slot for the insertion of a clamping-plate and means for adj ustably securing said plate to position in contact with the stub portion of said calendar, substantially as described.

7. A holder for a calendar, comprising a frame provided with legs and a lug, a slot in the rear portion of said frame, a recessed clamping-plate provided with an overhanging lip, feet, and a bearing, and means adapted to be inserted through said bearing and engaging with the lug of said frame for holding said clamping-plate in position against said calendar, substantially as described.

8. A holder for a stub-calendar, comprising a skeleton frame with front and rear legs and a slot for the reception of a recessed plate pro vided with an overhanging lip having a sharp edge, and means for clamping said plate to position in contact with the stub portion of the calendar, substantially as described.
