GARMENT-HANGER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,062, dated June 28, 1892.

.To all whom it may concern:-

Be it known that I, CHARLES W. LAUBIN, of Thomaston, in the county of Litch field and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description; whereby any one skilled in the art can make and use the same.

The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and compact article that is adapted for use for hangingtrousers; and my invention consists in the details of the several parts making up the device as a Whole, and in their combination, as more particularly hereinafter described, and pointed outin the claim.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a detail front View of the device with the sliding arms partly extended. Fig. 2 is adetail view in central horizontal section. Fig. 3 is a detail View in cross-section through the hooks and clamp.

In the accompanying drawings, the lettera denotes the tubular body part of the hanger,

that is preferably made of wood with the opening oblong in cross-section, the sliding arms I) and a being locatedwithin the tube and extensible from opposite ends to a limited distance. The arms are preferably made of wood and have in their upper edges one or more notches d.

The body a of the hanger is provided near its center with the hooks f 9, one or both of which have screw stems h, that project a slight distance within the tube, so that by 5 turning the hook the screwstem operates as a clamp to hold the arms in any position within'their sliding movement. The upper hook serves to suspend the hanger and the attached trousers from a nail or peg, While 40 the lower one serves to suspend a coat, Vest, or other garment in addition.

I claim as my invention- In combination, in a garment-hanger, the tubular body part, the extensible and adj ustable arms having sliding movement therein and having one or more notches in their upper edge near the outer ends of the arms, the screw-threaded hook f, projecting through the body part with its lower end adapted to engage the adjustable arms, whereby they are clamped in any desired position, and the hook g, also screw-threaded, projecting through the body part and with its inner end adapted to engage the adjustable arms, whereby they may be clamped in any desired position, all substantially as described.
