SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,050, dated June 28, 1892. Application filed March 5, 1892. Serial No. 4.23.858. (No ma.)

To a, whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, GEORGE B.-OOOPER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State-of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in J acketed Cans, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of novel, simple, and inexpensive means for connecting a can with the jacket thereof, whereby they may be readily carried as one, as will be hereinafter set forth.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view, partly broken away, of a jacketed can embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the connecting device employed.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a can, and B the jacket receiving the same. Secured to the side of the can below the breast thereof are clips O of sheet metal or other suitable material, each of which is primarily of the form shown in Fig. 2, of the ear D, which is soldered or otherwise fastened to the can, the horizontal portion E at the top of said ear, and the depending tongue F. When the can is inserted into the jacket, the tongues F are passed downward between the top hooks J of the jacket or between the inner hoop and body of the jacket, and then bent outwardly under the hoop, as at G, and then upwardly, as at H, against the outer surface of the hoop, thus producing in each clip two limbs which are parallel with the ear or two hooks which have their bends in reverse directions, so that the-jacket is suspended from the canv by means of the clips and likewise connectedby the same with the can in a simple, inexpensive, and durable manner.

Should itbe desired to remove the can from the jacket, the portions H of the clips are bent downwardly, whereby the can may be raised, the clips then passing freely through the space between the hoops or be tween the hoops and body, when the can is disconnected from the jacket and may be entirely separated therefrom.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,"is

1. A can havinga jacket with a hoop 011 its outer face and a clip having an ear secured to the outer surface of thecan and a tongue passing over the body of the jacket downward on the inner side of the hoop and then upward on the outer side thereof, said parts being combined substantially asdescribed.

2. A can with a jacket, said jacket having a hoop secured to the outer sidethereof and said can having a clip s ecuredthereto and provided with a flexible tongue embracing the top of the jacket and the under and opposite faces of the hoop, said parts being combined substantially as described.
