MILK-STRAINER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,796, dated June 28, 1892.

Application filed January 18, 1892. Serial No. 418,513. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLOM L. FLEMING, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Humboldt,in thecounty of Humboldt and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Duplex Milk-Strainer, of which the following is a specification.

My object is to provide an improved duplex milk-strainer in whichthe parts are all readily accessible, so that they may be conveniently and thoroughly cleaned.

My invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the device, in the construction of the bayonetjoint which connects the two parts, and in certain other features, as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the complete device withthe auxiliary strainer slightly detached from the other part. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the coacting parts which produce a bayonetjoint between the main strainer and the frame of the detachable one. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional View of the bottom portion of the main strainer with the detaclable portion connected therewith, as requir d in practical use.

The reference-letter A is used thrpughout the drawings to designate a funnel-shaped device having its lower end covered by means of awire strainerA permanently fixed thereto.

0 represents asheet-metal cylinder adapt ed-to overlap the flange A and be connected therewith by means of a bayonet-joint pro: duced by forming the grooves Q in the top edge of the said cylinder, which groove extends downward and then at right angles, adapted to admit the lugs B in such manner that the lugs 13 when placed in the said grooves C and turned at right angles will produce a firm connection between the two parts.

13 represents an annular shoulder fixed to the inner central portion of the cylinder 0.

D is a wire ring adapted to be admitted in the cylinder 0 from the top andrest on the shoulder D. A straining-cloth may be readily attached to the ring, thereby providing a convenient strainer which can be easily detached. An integral loop D is formed in the ring to facilitate handling.

It will be obvious that the bayonet-joint shown and described may be more quickly and cheaply formed than if a slot were used in lieu of a groove.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A duplex milk-strainercomprising a funnel-shaped device having a wire-strainer permanently fixed to its bottom, a cylindrical rim extending downward from the bottom, lugs fixed to the outer sides of the said rim, an auxiliarysheet-metal cylinderhaving an annular shoulder formed on its inner central portion and grooves formed by bending the metal outward at the top of the cylinder, which grooves extend downward and then at right angles thereto and are adapted to admit the said lugs, a wire ring adapted to ensubstantially as shown and described.
