DINNER PAIL.

INVENIYDR sections or parts thereof slightly separated.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC FRANKLIN MARANVILLE, OF CLINTON, OHIO.
DINNER-PAIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,834, dated July 5. 1887.
Application filed March 17, 1887.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN BIARAN- VILLE, of Clinton, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Dinner-Tail; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and complete description thereof.
This invention relates to improvements in dinnerpails, which will be hereinafter more particularly described, and pointed out in the claims.
That the said improvements may be more fully seen and understood, reference will be had to the following specification and to the accompanying drawings, making part of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side view of the pail, showing the cover, upper and lower Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section. Fig. 3 is atop View of the lower section. Figs. 4 and 5 are detached sections, enlarged, which will be referred to hereinafter.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
The pail consists of four principal parts via, coverA, upper section, B, section 0, and cover D. The upper section is provided with the cover A, Figs. 1 and 2, and the lower section, 0, with the cover D, Figs. 2 and 3. To the upper section is attached a bail or handle in the usual way, as shown. The flange or rim E ofthe cover A is formed with the thread of a screw, F, composed of a spiral wire, around which is folded the tin of the flange forming its lower edge, as seen at a, Figs. 2 and 4. At the upper part of thread Bis also formed the part of a screw, 1), which is inclosed between the outside of section B and a tin strip, G, encircling the section, as shown in Fig. 1, and is soldered thereto. The said strip G is formed with a spiral cove, in which, and by the outside ,of the section B, the wire is held spirally, as shown in Fig. 1, and in Fig. 4 inclosed within the sheet of the pail.
The means for connecting and separating the parts B and O are essentially the same as the mechanism described for the coverA and see- Serial No. 231,317. (No model.)
tion B, so far as it relates to the peculiar construction of the screw-joint. The spiral wire 0, which forms the thread of a screw, d, Figs. 1 and 5, is inclosed or folded within the tin of the flange II, which is of sufficient diameter to screw down over the outside ofsection O on the screw 0, which screw 0 is made up of a spiral wire inclosed in a spiral cove formed in the strip I, which strip is soldered to the outside of section 0 at the upper edge thereof, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, whereby the spiral wire fornr ing the screw between the two, as seen in Fig. 5, insures a strong and durable means forconnecting and separating the two parts 13 O of the pail. The wires which form the screws referred to add also strength to the pail.
On the interior upper side of the section 0 is an upturned guard-.ilange, J, the lower edge of which is attached to the said section bysoldering or otherwise. The flange J projects inward concentrically to the pail-center sufficiently to admit of its receiving the rim f of the cover 1) in Figs. 2 and 5, which closes .over the section 0, which section'is designed them; but the distinguishing features of my improvements are herein set forth and claimed.
WVhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A. dinner-pail consisting of distinct sections and a cover, which are to be connected and opened by screw-threads, the threads thereof formed by wires inclosed on a spiral line within beads formed in the metal which has been turned over the wires, substantially as described.
2. In a dinner-pail, the section 0, having screw-thread connection with section B, provided with spiral wires inclosed in strip I, In testimony whereof I affix my signature in soldered to the section, and the guard-flange J presence of two witnesses.
having the lower edge soldered to O and the r upper edge projecting inwardly, in combina- FRANKLIN MARANVILLE. tion with the interior cover, D, provided with the rim f to close over the projecting edge of W'itnesses: V
J ,whereby the cover is tightened by screwing H. MARANVILLE,
together sections 13 and O. FRANK B. THEIss.
