C. R. ALBR'BGHT. THUMB TAGK.
No; 477,587. Patented June 21,1892.
ATTOHNE YS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES R. ALBRECHT, OF TOMPKINSVILLE, NEW YORK.
THuMB-TACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 4577,58?,u dated June 21, 1892.
Application filed April 28, 1892. Serial No. 431,057. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be itknown that I, CHARLES R. ALBRECHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toinpkinsville, in. the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Thumb-Tackle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide anew and improved thumb-tack wherein the head is not liable to' work loose and its circumference only bears on the material to be secured.
To accomplish this object the invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a central section in the plane ,Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view. Fig. 3 is a section of the head with the pin before the tack is finished.
In the drawings, the letter A designates the head of my thumb-tack, which is of brass, German silver, orany other inaterialof a similar nature, and which is provided with ahole a for the admission of the pin B. This hole is provided with an upwardly-projcting rini ct', (shown in Fig. 3,) andthe pin B lits the same snugly, as indicated in this ligure. In order to secure the pin in the head, I apply to the shank of the pin suitable dies, while at the saine time pressure is applied to the top of the pin. By the action of the dies the shank of the pin is reduced in thickness frein that shown in dotted lines in Fig. l to that shown in full lines in said figure, and the suirplus metal'is forced into the soft metal from which ternal recess b, which engages a projection or rim c, formed in the interior of the head A.
If desired, the head of mytack may be made concave on its lower surface, the concavity being produced by suitable dies, either simultaneously with the operation of securing the pin or by a separate operation.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersV Patent, is-
A thumb-tack composed of a head A, having an opening a, with an internal projection or rim c, and a pointed shank B, having an' enlarged top provided with an internal recess b, adapted to engage the internal rini c of the head, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES R. ALBRECHT.
