FIG-1.
nu T/VE5$5.' //v VE/V 70 A.
%% I WW M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE A. THOMPSON, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
IM PROVED CALL-BELL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,392, dated June 5, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE A. THOMPSON, of Hartford, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Call-Bells; and I do hereby declare that the same is described and represented in the following specification and drawings; and to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it by referring to the drawings, in which the. same letters indicate like parts in each of the figures.
The nature of this improvement will be clearly understood from the specification and drawings.
The object desired to be attained thereby is to simplify and eheapen the manufacture, and at the same time render it less liable to get out of order, and therefore more desirable for use.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation.
to is the bell. bis the base. cis the standard, the lower end of which is secured in a perpendicular position in the base b. The bell to is secured to the upper end of said standard. cl is a hinge-pad, the lower part of which is provided With a nut formed therein, by means of which both the hinge'pad and the bell are held in their proper place on the upper end of the standard 0 simply by turning the nut formed in the lower part of the hinge-pad onto the screw formed on the upper end of said standard.
e is a striking-knob secured upon the lower end of the wire g. The upper end of said wire passes up through an opening made in the upper end of the standard 0, and is made fast in the upper part of the hinge-pad, and is also bent into the proper shape, so that the knob will just strike the rim of the hell when the pad is pressed down, and also so as to hold the pad in an elevated position, in readiness to excite theknob against the bell when desired.
Now it will be seen that when the pad is pressed'down the knob 6 will strike the rim of the bell, and when at rest the knob 0 will hold the upper part of the hinge-pad in an elevated position ready-for use.
I believe I have thus shown the nature, construction, and operation of this improvement, so as to enable others skilled to make and use the same.
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The hinge-pad d, in combination with the bell a, striking-knob 0, arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose described.
