EZRA G. CAMERON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO DAVID M. FOOTE, OF EATON RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
BLACKING-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 475,294, dated May 24, 1892.
Application filed December 5, 1891. Serial No. 414,077. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA G. CAMERON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inBlacking-Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in blacking-eases.
The invention has for its object the construction of a device adapted to be secured to the wall and arranged to receive a blackingbrush, blacking, &c., and which can be shut up out of the way when not in use and which can readily be opened, so as to form a rest for the foot while in the act of blacking the shoe or boot.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction of the blacking-case and the combination of its parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth, and pointed outin the claim.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the case closed. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section on the line z z of Fig. 1, with the device open. Fig. 3 is an edge or side elevation. Fig. 4 is a crosssection on the line so at, Fig. 3.
In the drawings, A represents a back board, to the lower end of which is secured a pocket B, the sides of which extend upwardly beyond the upper edge of the front, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. In the inner faces of the side pieces a of the pocket 13 are formed the vertical grooves b.
C represents a box, which is adapted to easily slide within the pocket 13. A rod or pin D passes transversely through this box, with its projecting ends en teringthe slots or grooves in the inner faces of the side piece of the pocket B.
E represents a cover to the box C. The box C is designed to receive a blacking-brush, dauber, &c., while in the stationary part of the cover 0 is formed a recess cl, designed to receive a box of blaeking.-
The parts being constructed and arranged as set forth, the devieeis operated as follows: The back A is secured to the wall of a room or to the door. When the device is not in use, the box C rests within the pocket, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. When it is desired to use the device, the box C is raised up, the pin b sliding upwardly in the grooves until it strikes the upper ends thereof, as shown in Fig. 2. The box is now turned down into a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2, resting upon the upper edge of the front piece of the pocket, while the pin b is the resistance of the leverage thus formed and prevents the box from falling below a given point. By raising the cover access is had to the interior of the box, and the cover forms a convenient rest for the foot while in the act of blacking the shoe or boot.
What I claim as my invention is-- In a device of the character described, in combination, a back A, having a pocket B, the inner faces of the side pieces of which are provided with vertical grooves or slots 1) near their edges, with a box C, provided with a cover E, and a pin or red D, passing transversely through said box C and slidingly engaging the grooves or slots 19, whereby the box is horizontally supported upon the front of the pocket when in use and is adapted to be slid into the pocket when not in use, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 25th day of November, 1891.
EZRA G. CAMERON.
