Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
Application filed October 13, 1914. Serial No. 866,465.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARPAD F. HUsz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden in the county of Camden and State of New ersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Doors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to swinging and sliding doors, and particularly to that class of doors of the character set forth commonly used in cabinets, the main object of the invention being to provide a door with means for pivotally swinging the same to an open position, and thereafter sliding said door into a recess formed within the body of the cabinet.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction o fvmounting for the door whereby an easy action thereof is insured.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a vertical section taken through a cabinet and looking toward the closed door. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section looking downward. Fig. 3 is a detail section showing the means for pivotally and slidably mounting the upper portion of the door. Fig. 4 is a detail transverse section showing the means for slidably and pivotally supporting the lower, portion of the door.
1 designates a cabinet havlng a doorway 2 and provided at one side or end with a partition 3 forming a door receiving recess 1-. The door 5 normally extends across the front part of the cabinet and closes the doorway 2, but may be swun outwardlv I and then slid'rearwardly into the recess 4.
As shown, a rod 6 is rigidly mounted within agroove or recess 6 formed in thebottom of the door, by means of a cleat 7 and a yoke 8. Said rod passes through the bore 9 of a sleeve 10 formed upon a bearing pin 11, said pin being journaled in an opening 12 at the base of the cabinet. A pin 13 is secured to the top of the door and in vertical alinement with the pin 11 and pivotally and sli'dably engages a groove or recess 14 formed in the top or upper wall of the cabinet.
It will be evident from the foregoing description of the structure that the door may be swung outward on the pins 11 and 13 as anaxis until it fully opens the doorway and is disposed at right angles to its normal po sition between and parallel with the walls of the recess 4:. The door may then be slid backward into said recess, the rod 6 in this action sliding through the sleeve 10 while the pin 13 travels in the groove 14, allowing the door to have a free and easy disappearing motion within the recess 4:. Owing to its rounded construction, the yoke 8 has an anti-friction device and facilitates the movement of the door 4, while the bearing structure described, which is simple and inexpensive in character, enables the door to be swung and slid in an easy and convenient manner.
I claim A cabinet having a doorway, a groove in its top wall and a bearing opening in its bottom wall, in combination with a door having at its upper portion a pin slidably and pivotally engaging said groove and having at its base a recess, a rod disposed within said recess, and a pin journaled in the opening in the bottom of the cabinet and having a guide sleeve engaging said rod.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARPAD F. HUSZ.
