Unirrsn Starts Parent @rrrca EZRA PLEUKHARP AND TOWNSEND SHILLING, OF GOlJUMBUS, OHIO; SAID SHILLING ASSIGNOR TO SAID PLEUKHARP.
SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,020, dated February 24, 1885.
Application filed March 31, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, EZRA PLEUKHARP and TOWNSEND SHILLING, citizens of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Slides; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad t0 the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and tigu res of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates toslides designed for use in extension-tables; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed outin the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a horizontal longitudinal section through a portion of a table slide provided with our improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section taken through a table-slide on the line corresponding with line 00 m of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a portion of one of the slides shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is ahoi'izontal longitudinal section corresponding with the line y g of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a transverse vertical view of a table'slide, partly in section, on the line 2 z of Fig. 1.. Fig. 6 is a detached perspective view of one of the slide-castings. Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the casting shown in Fig. 5.
Similar letters of reference in the several drawings denote like parts.
Referring to the drawings, A A designate portions of a table-slide having grooves a,pro-
4o vided at their bottoms with lateral extensions a. The grooves thus formed are T-shaped, as clearly seen by reference to Fig. 5.
B designates a casting constructed as shown in the drawingsthat is to say, consisting of 5 the central web, b, having its upper and lower surfaces recessed, and lateral extending portions b b b b. The lateral extensions b b consist of two short rounded flanges projecting from opposite sides of the web. Of the (Model remaining flanges upon the reverse side of the web, one, If, is extended outwardly beyond the end of the flange b to form a stop against which the slide-piece c strikes, The remaining outwardly-projecting \I-shaped flange, 11*, extends from end to end of the casting B. The flange b? is provided with a central slot, b extending from its outer edge to the web b,
to afford means for securing the casting to the slide.
b designates perforations in the web for the passage of water falling from the table.
0 designates a groove formed in the end of the slide for the reception of the stop-pin c, projecting from the slide A adjacent thereto.
As will be readily seen from the drawings, the long arm or extension If of the casting projects into and across the groove (3 and 0p crates to limit the movement of the slide-pin c in said groove. The casting B is held in position by its long arm I), flttinginto a mor- 7o tise, a, that extends from the groove a to and into the groove 0, in connection with a screw, 0, which passes through the slot b of the eX- tension If.
We preferably form each of the slide-sections A A in a single piece, having the grooves a and G and mortiscs a formed therein by suitable machinery. If desired, however, said slide-secti0ns may be formed in two or more pieces-to wit, having the main body pro vided upon its face with a groove and connecting-mortises for the reception of the casting, and having slats or cleats secured thereto, the edges of which bear against the web of the casting at each side thereof. The slidesections A A are shown closed, the stop-pin c projecting from each of said sections being within the groove C and against the arm I) of the casting B. WVhen it is desired to open the sections,t-he slides are moved in the direction of the arrows at m, respectively, thereby moving the'stop-pins out of the grooves G, as will be readily understood. hen the slides are moved as last described, the castings B,secured to the ends of each of the slides A A, will by contact with each other operate to limit the movement of the slides, thus forming a stop, as will be readily understood.
We are aware that modification s in details I the slides A A, having grooves a and O, morof construction of the herein-described invention may be made, and therefore we would have it understood that we do not limit ourselves to the exact Construction herein shown,
I but reserve the rightto make such changes as fairly fall wilhin the scope of our invention} What we clainnand desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In a table-slide having a stop-pin, c, the combination ofthe casting B, having the web provided with recesses and apertures, rounded flanges, long arm or flange b, parallel with the greater transverse diameter of the slide, and slotted flange b*, with slides having grooves a O, and a connecting-mortise to receive said arm b substantially as described, and for the tise a, and stop-pin c, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a table-slide, the section A, having groove a, a mortise, a", and groove 0 for the reception of the stop-pin c, a casting, 13, provided with a long arm, I)", projecting through said mortise, in combination with the section A, having a central groove that engages with flanges formed upon said casting, and a stoppin, '0, that enters groove 0 and abu'ts against the long arm I)" of the casting, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
' EZRA PLEUKI-IARP.
