To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HENRY F. BENTE, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Securing Cards to Boxes, especially Cigar-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to improvements in devices for securing cards to boxes, especially cigar-boxes; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and designated in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a box having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the clasps detached, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the blank from which the device or clasp is formed.

The device that I am about to describe in detail is adapted to temporarily support a display-card, upon which card is printed the name of the cigar or tobacco, the firm or persons name who manufactures or handles the cigars or tobacco, and the price of said cigars or tobacco. The device or clasp for supporting said display-card is so constructed as to temporarily secure the same between the box and the lid, or, namely, the hinged portion of the box containing the cigars or tobacco.

My invention is especially applicable to boxes containing tobacco, but preferably that of cigars.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a box, which is of the ordinary construction and constructed to hold cigars, and 2 a lid or cover hinged to the same by means of the ordinary fabric or linen, such as 3. Between said box or cover or through said hinged por tion my invention is easily inserted temporarily.

4 represents a clasp, which is formed from a single piece of metal of such a thickness as to be easily conformed to the shape desired.

Referring to Fig. 4 of the drawings, in which is shown the blank from which my device is formed, I will conceive that said blank is divided into three parts, as shown by dotted lines in the said figure, portion 5 tapering from the dotted line to the terminal end thereof. The opposite end 6 of said blank 4 is provided with aV-shaped end 7, the sides of said V-shaped end converging to a point 8, by which means the plate 4 can easily be inserted through the hinge 3 of the box.

Before proceeding further with the detail description it will be well to state that by preference I employ two of the devices whereby the display-card is held rigidly to the box. However,l do not limit myself to the number of said devices, as this is only a matter of convenience.

Having given the construction of the blank, I shall now proceed to describe the formation of said device after the same has been completed and is ready to be applied to the box containing the cigars or tobacco.

From the dotted line '(referring again to Fig. 4) the plate or blank 4 is slightly bent, forming two arms 6 and 9 at an obtuse angle of about one hundred and thirty-five degrees. From the dotted line adjacent to the portion 5 the blank 4 is again bent and folded upon itself, forming a clasp, between which the display-card 10 is inserted.

Owing to the formation of the device or plate 4, the device or devices when attached to a box of cigars, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, the display-card 10 will be slightly inclined from the rear side of the box 1, in order that theletters or words printed thereon may be easily read from theshow-case within which said box is placed.

The surface of the display-card is preferably divided off, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, the center of which displays the name of the cigar, the left-hand corner the name of the manufacturer of said cigars or the name of the person or firm-handling said cigars, and the price of the cigars at the righthand end of said display-card.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim is 1.
