DOOR KNOB FASTENING.
No. 470,072. Patented Mar. 1, 1892.

JOHN H. ORMSBY, OF BOLTON LANDING, NEW YORK.
DOOR-KNOB FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,072, datedMarch 1, 1892.
Application filed September 30, 1891- Serial No. 407,348- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, JOHN H. ORMsBY, a citi-- zen of the United States, and a resident of Bolton Landing, in the county of Warren and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Knob Fastenings; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a vertical 10ngitudinal section. Fig. 2 is a View of the knob-plate, the parts being detached.
This invention has relation to means for fastening door-knobs to spindles; and it consists in the novel construction and combina-.
tion of parts, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a knob having the inner end of its shank portion 13 provided with a shoulder or flange a. Said shank also has an angular aperture 1), which receives the end of the spindle or bar O.
D is the knob-plate fitting around said spindle and having therein a groove d to receive the shoulder or flange a of the knobshank. This plate is formed in two pieces D and D to permit it to he slipped over and into engagement with the shoulder a after the knob is applied to the door. The section D is preferably wedge-shape, fitting closely into section D. Said sections are held in place by screws f.
It will be seen that by. this construction I obviate the use of the screw ordinarily. used ordinary manner and having a central perfo-' ration to receive the knob-shank, the inner face of said plate having a groove 01 around said perforation to receive the said shoulder or flange and formed in two sections, the smaller wedge-shaped section being removable, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN II. ORIVISBY. Vitnesses:
MORGAN H. TANNER, EDDIE N. LAMB.
