UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. 7
JOHN SOHADE, OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT.
KNOB ATTACHMEN'T.
SPECIFICATION forming'part of Letters Patent No. 350,397, dated October 5, 1.856,
Application filed January 9, 1886. Serial l\lo. 181,124.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Sermon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and Stateof'Oonnecticut, have invented certain new and use ful Improvcmentsiu Knob Attachments; and- I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure '1 of the drawings is a representation of the devices embodying my invention, and is a side view of a door-knob and spindle, a portion of the former being in section. Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the broken line as m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side view of the eccentric bolt. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of said bolt on the broken line y, Fig. 3.
My invention has relation to devices for attaching knobs to their spindles; and it con sists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the doorknob, B the knob-shank, and G the spindle, which spindle is rectangular in cross section. The seat D in the knob-shank is also rectangular in cross- At one side ofthe spindle-seat D, I provide a cam seat or hole, E, in which I fit an eccen (No model.)
different thicknesses, for the reason that the cam-bolt will lock the spindle in its seat at any point of its length. a
The upper and lower ends of the cam-bolt are cylindrical in cross-section, having journals which may be readily turned in their seats.
The metal on or at the edge of the hole or seat E is prepared to prevent the cam bolt or pin F from falling out when not attached to the spindle by spinning or turning over the edge of the metal around the pin.
I attach importance to the employment of the cam-bolt and to the fact that the spindle is of the ordinary construction, not being notched nor recessed. I
I am aware that knob-shanks have heretofore been provided with threaded apertn res, knob-spindles notched and recessed, and tapering screws employed to fasten the knobs to the spindles, and therefore do not claim such devices broadly.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
\Vitnesses:
WILLIAM F. OLMSTEAD, CLARENCE L. REID.
