INVALIDS BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,926, dated December 29, 1891.,

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN GREER, of Greensborough, in the county of Guilford and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new 5 and useful Improvements in Invalids Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in invalids brackets; and it consists in certain I novel featufes of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts, which will be fully described hereinafter, and more particularly referred to in the claims.

The object of my invention is to construct an invalids bracket which may be conveniently clamped to the side of the bed, and

which is adapted to hold a waiter in an extended position over the bed and also form a support for a lamp-stove for the purpose of heating water or other liquids.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved'bracket. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same. Fig.3 is a bottom view of the tray.

0 A represents the main vertical support, which is provided with the clamping-jaw B on its upper end, and its lower end is made screwthreaded, as shown. Loosely mounted on the portion A is the lower clamping-jaw O, which 5 5 is adjusted on the said portion by the screwthreaded stop D, moving on the lower part of the rod A. Between the jaws B and O is clamped the bed-rail, so that the bracket is held firmly in an upright position. The up- 0 per end of the jaw C is constructed with a screw-threaded recess, as shown, and in this recess is supported the vertical standard E, which is provided with a flange or collar F around its lower end. Moving Vertically on the said standard is the sleeve G, the lower end of which is made screw-threaded on its outer side, as shown. This screw-threaded portion engages the screw-threaded socket in the upper end of the jaw O, and by this means the upright E is clamped in a vertical position, the shoulder F preventing it from being lifted through the sleeve G. I

Adj ustably secured to the standard E is the arm H, which has an elbow on its outer end which receives the screw-threaded projection I on the under side ofthe tray J, and by this means the latter is held in an extended position and may be turned around, as desired, to suit the convenience of the patient; also loosely mounted on the upright E is a towel- 6o .arm K.

The upper end of the upright E is made screw-threaded and is adapted to receive. the screw-threaded socket portion L on the under side of the lamp-bracket M. The upper por- 6 5 tion of this frame is adapted to hold acup or other vessel containing water which it is desired to heat.

A bracket of the construction herein shown and described maybe constructed of iron rods or sections of pipe, as may be preferred, either of which make a very strong and substantial bracket and at a very small cost.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a bracket, an upright having an en larged upper end provided with a screwthreaded recess, a jaw made integral with and extending outward from the said enlarged portion, an adjustable jaw on the lower end of the upright, a vertical standard E, a head F, formed thereon and which is adapted to fit within the said recess, and a sleeve on said upright E, having the lower portion of its pe ripheryscrew-threaded, whereby it is adapted to engage the screw-threaded wall of the said recess, the parts being combined substantially as shown and described.

In a bracket, the upright A, having an adjustable jaw on its lower end and a fixed 9o recessed jaw on its upper end,upright E, having a shoulder on its lower end, a sleeve loosely mounted on the said portion E, the lower end of the said sleeve being adapted to engage the recess in the stationary jaw, an 5 arm adjustably secured to the said upright, and a tray supported by the arm, the parts being combined substantially as shown and described.
