J. 1/1. TAYLOR.
TROUSERS.
No. 464,916. Patented Deo. 8,1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. TAYLOR, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,916, dated December 8, 1891.
Application led'July 2l, 1891. Serial Nox l00,263. (No model.)
Zen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pantaloons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in pantaloons; and it consists in the trousers provided with an abdominal support constructed and arranged substantially1 as hereinafter described, and particularlypointed out in the subjoined claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective front elevation of a pair of panltaloons provided with my improved abdominal support. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged diagrammatic view showing the several parts in position.
To put my invention into practice with a pair of pantaloons of ordinary constructioml provide two strong straps 2 and 3 of a suitable woven fabric, one of which is provided at one end thereof with an open link 4, securely fastened to the said strap and adapted to connect with a hook 5, adjust-ably attached to on'e end of. the other strap 3, thereby forming a connection that may be used to tighten or release the support. The other extremities of these straps 2 and 3 are provided with a hook 7 and eye 8 for the purpose of connecting the one with the other. These two straps which form the abdominal support are permanently attached to the pantaloons and occupy a posi tion, with theirseveral connections, as seen at Fig. 3 on the drawings. The one portion 3 of the support extends from the rear vent 9 diagonally across the hips to and through one of the front pockets 10 to a point slightly below the middle of the front vent 11, and the other strap 3, secured in a like manner, only extending in an opposite direction and terminating at a point directly opposite to the firstdescribed strap 2 in a manner that the hook 7 of the one may be connected to the eye Sof the other. These two straps 2 and 3 are rmly sewed to the garment from their front ends to a point a short distance from their rear extremities or to the device for connecting the same together. The front portions ofthe support are concealed from view by passing the same through the pockets and sewing that portion to the inside of the garment.
This construction of pantaloons will be' found particularly useful to Workmen when lifting heavy objects, as the straps will act as a support to the abdomen, or to persons that are suffering from an abdominal rupture, and the device may be readily adapted to any style or kind of pantaloons.
I-Iavin g thus described my invention, I claim- The combination, with a pair of pantaloons having the openings 10, of the herein-described abdominal supporter, comprising two straps 2 and 3, permanently secured to said pantaloons, extending diagonally in opposite directions from the rear outer side of the pantaloons, adjacent to the waistband thereof, through said openings 10 `to the inside of the pantaloons, adjacent to the middle of the front vent, and having their rear adjacent ends adjustably connected together and their front ends provided, respectively, with a hook and an eye.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereuntoaffix my signature this 11th day of July, A. D. 1891.
JOHN M. in. s]
CHARLES LARGE, M. E. HARRISON.
