Description

(No Model.) I
P. E. KOHLER.
I CURRY COMB.
No. 464,773: Patented Dec, 8, 1891 ATTORNEY.
WITNESSES: Y W i 5 01? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK E. KOIILER, OF CANTON, OHIO.
CURRY- come.
SIECIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,773, dated December 8, 1891.
Application filed April 22, 1891.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK E. KOHLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curry-Combs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in curry-combs; and it consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a view in perspective of a curry-comb, illustrating my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under or toothed side of the comb.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide a curry-comb thatmay be held under the palm of the hand between the thumb and little finger and to provide in the comb a certain amount of flexibility.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings, A is the handle of the comb, which may be made of any suitable material, preferably of cast malleable iron, having at one of its endsa thumbhook-like portion B and at its other end a finger-hook O.
- The end portion of the handle is provided with downwardly-projected lugs D, having central perforations for the bolt E. The body portion of the handle is hollowed out on the under side between the lugs D, forming the body of the handle in semicircle, thereby reducing the Weight and at the same time securing a light yet strong handle. In the parallel edges of the handle is provided a series of kerfs a b 0.
Serial No. 389,884. (No model.)
The comb consists of a series of strap-metal rings, preferably of steel, serrated on one side, the outer ring F to rest against the lugs D, the upper or smooth edge in the kerf a, the rings G and H in the kerfs b and c concentric to the outside ring F, the rings having perforations at their middle and end portions, through which the rod or bolt E is placed, as shown, by which the ends of the rings are held together and the rings held in'the handle and in the kerfs a b c, which are cut to such a depth as to allow the rings to vibrate transverse on the bolt E to allow the comb to conform to or follow the undulations of the body of the animal.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, a curry-comb composed of a series of rings serrated on one side concentric to each other, and a handle to extend over and embrace said rings, having at its end portions hooks B and O- and lugsD andin its body portion kerfs a, b, and c, and the bolt E, by which the serrated rings are secured to the handle, substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a curry-comb, of a series of toothed rings concentric to each other and spaced apart, abolt inserted through said rings to allow the same to rock thereon, and a handle secured to the ends of the'bolt and spacing said rings and provided with kerfs into which the upper edge of the rings are located and retained spaced apart, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand thisth day of April, A. D. 1891.
FREDERICK E. KOI-ILER.
