C. FISHBAGK. PARLOR GOAL BOX.
Patented Deo. 1, `1891'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
oHARLEsEI'sIIBAcK, or sT.v Louis, MISSOURI.
APARLoR COAL-Box.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent NO. 464,250, dated December 1, 1891. Application filed October 3, 1890. Serial No. 366,962. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it kn own that I, CHARLES FIsHBAoK, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Parlor Coal-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accolnpanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has for its object to provide a novel, ornamental, and simple construction in a parlor-coal-box; and it consists'in-the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and designated in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my complete invention, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof.
Referring to the drawings, l represents a box or receptacle of any suitable shape, butl suitably ornamented to represent a cabinet or other parlor ornament or furniture, by which means the same is not noticeable forthe purposes for which it is intended and rather forms an ornament of a room.
2 represents handles secured to each side of the box or receptacle, by means of which the same may be carried from place to place, and to the bottom thereof are secured casters or rollers 3, by means of Which'the same may be moved upon the oor of the room on whichv it is placed.
To the top of the box or receptacle is hinged a cover 4, which is of the usual construction and is suitably ornamented in design. The front of the box or receptacle 1 terminates at its lower edge at a certain distance from the bottom thereof, by which means an opening 5 is formed therein through which the coal or other fuel is removed from the box.
To the lower edge of the front of the box 6 is hinged a door or lid '7, the width of which corresponds to the width of the opening 5 formed in the same. The lid or door is provided with bolts 9, the ends of which enter holes 10, formed on the inside of the receptacle 1, for locking the said lid in a closed position.
l l1 represents the bottom of the box or receptacle, which bottom extends some distance beyond the front surface of the same and forms a platform 12, by means of which a shovel is guided under the coal or other fuel contained inthe box. To the inside surface of the front 6 of the receptacle is secured a shed 13, the lower edge of which is approximately on a line with the lower edge of the said side of the receptacle. Triangular blocks 14 are interposed between the shed and the front side of the receptacle, which act as a support-for the said shed.
` By the construction of the shed as described ltained in the said receptacle for use.
The interior of the box or receptacle is lined with sheet-iron 15 and secured thereto by means of nails, tacks, or other similar devices, which prevents the said box from being disgured through the rough uses to which it is necessarily subjected. It will be noticed that as the sheathing of the platform extends over the projecting edge thereof the engagement of the edge by a shovel is prevented. The bottoni 11 rests Yon the cleats 16, but is not fastened thereto. The object of this is to enable the said bottom to be slid out when it is desirable to discharge the entire contents of the box after the latter has been removed to a suitable' place.
I am aware that prior to my invention various coal-boxesrhave been constructed having openings therein to receive and remove the fuel. The object of my invention is to produce an ornamental and attractive receptacle for such purposes, by means of which a sufficient quantity of fuel maybe always kept in the house, and `by removing the same by using the dirt and dust are entirely dispensed with by means of the construction as previously described.`
I-Iaving fully described my'invention, what I claim is Y A receptacle for coal, having an aperture 5 therein at its lower edge, a door 7, adapted In testimony whereof I affix my signature in to close the said aperture, a, shed 13, blocks presence of two witnesses.
14 for supporting the said shed, and a removable bottom, the forward edge of which pro- CHARLES FISHBAbK' jects, said bottom adapted to be removed for Witnesses: discharging the full contents of the box, sub'- E. E. LONGAN, stautially as described. A C. F. KILLER.
