This invention relates to display devices and particularly to a display cabinet which includes not only a display area adapted advantageously to disclose articles of many sizes and shapes, but also produces a readily accessible. storage space for other stock or supplies than those on immediate display.

In display structures of cabinet form heretofore in use, the display portions have been so disposed that the storage of stock was imu possible without either decreasing the display itself or having the stored stock visible through the display openings. ln my present invention I have overcome ties by so proportioning and arranging the parts that a considerable storage space is provided without interfering with or lessening the display area. rlhis I accomplish in part by employing what I term a terraced arrangement of display areas.

Furthermore, my invention is so constructed that the same may readily be cleaned without the necessity of making the many compartments removable.

a The framework, enclosing members and shelves of my cabinet are made of sheet metal so designed as to provide a ready assembly and convenient replacement of parts, said parts being of such overlapping and interfitting nature as to act as reinforcements for each other to the end that a finished structure of great strength and compact nature is produced.

which floor is disclosed as a wooden member 2, although the same, if desired,v may be vof sheet metal or any other suitable material. Resting on said bottom 2 are the inturned flanges 31 of `a bach panel 3 for the lower or a chest portion of my display device, said panel 3 having also an upper inturned flange 32 (see Fig. 3). l

The side panels l are provided with inturned side portions l1 which overlap and brace the back panel 3 (see Fig. l).

Adjoining the side panels d are front panels The panel 5 is cut away to provide an entrance E which may be closed by doors D hinged'to the panel 5 at 52 and which are separated from each other by a vertical panel 6 spaced inwardly from the'panel 5 and having inturned flanges 61.

The door D comprises an outer metal panel D1 having rolled or beaded edges Da and an ,w inner spaced metal panel D2, thesame having inwardly and outwardly turned flanges D?) adapted to enter the beaded edges Da of the panel D. The space between these panels is filled with wood W or other suitable material. The inner panel enters and Vpasses through theentrance E, and the panels D2 overlap the same. v

A reinforcement for the back 3 and bottom 2 is provided. This comprises a sheet metal piece 7 folded to lit the inside walls and providing a pocket 71 adapted to receive the forward end of the floor-board 2. The top of the lining 7 has aninturned flange 7 2. The chest C is divided vertically as at 8 and horizontally as at 81 to provide four compartments. rlhe vertical partition 81 has inturned 1 flanges at its top and bottom which bear against the inturned flanges 8a, the lower one of which bears against the lining 7 for the floor 2 and the upper one bears against and supports the top wall of the cabinet 9.

The horizontal partition 8 is subdivided and has downturned flanges 8b, the inner of which bear against the vertical partition 81 and the outer of which bear against the side Vwalls l.

Above and supported by the chest C 'is disi posed my terraced display which I have'v indicated generally at A. This comprises side panels 12 which are bentupon themselves to forniiianges 13. The side panels are riveted as at R, Figs. 2 and 3, to the guard 91.

The upper portion of thebacl; of the display'A is closed by panels 342 and 283 which lie beneath and are riveted to the flanges 13 of the sides 12. Beneath these panels is an opening 15 through which access is had to the storage area 22 rearwardly of thelow'erportionsv of the display A. This opening 15 is closed by. a sliding door 16 which slides within guideways 17 which extend along either side ofthe opening l5. At the Vtop'of the' door 16 is a handle 18 and attached chain or cord 19 having a hooli 2O adapted to engage the edge of the top 21 ofthe display A which has a beaded edge 211. At its front edge'the top 21 which rests on the top edges of the vsides 12, extends as a downturned finishing iange 212.

Thissecond tray section 25 is supported by angle irons 27 fastened to the inside ofthe Vwalls 12 and also by the upper inturned `flange 241er the partition 24.

The back and bottom of the tray V25 are composed of a single piece of metal and the back 251 serves as a further partition separating the storage vspace 22 from the display trays or sections 23 and 25.

, This tray back 251 is turned horizontally at its top and enters a pocket defined by the inturned horizontal edge 282 of the bottom 281 of the tray 28, which bottom is supported by angleirons 29 carried by the inside walls 'of the panel 12. The bottom 281 is inclined 1 and extends upwardly as at 283, the sides of ofthe tray 28'being provided by the wall'12 whichis cutaway to conform to the inclination of the trays as is shown in Fig. 3. f A

This section 34'has also a glass front 35 supported byfangleirons 36 and is subdivided by an angleiron 37. kThe floor 341 extends upward to form a back 342 having an inturned edge 343 on which the top 21 rests.

By reference to Figs. 2 and 3 it will be seen'thateach ascending tray terminates inwardly short offthe'r tray just below, thus permitting an unobstructed view of the many items which may be arranged in the several display sections. In the case of the- sections 23 and 25"\ vhi`ch have flat bottoms, an upturned metal riml issuificient to prevent the goods slipping from the trays. On the inclined sections, the -glass fronts, serve not 'only to prevent thegoods sliding from position'but also creates'an impression of what appears to be a gradually rising and unbroken display of goods.

On the top shelf 21 may be arranged the larger articlesorthe same may be utilized for any other'purpase for which'a shelf is adapted.

As cut away, the sides 12 serve as end supports or sidesfor the several display sections butdo not interfere with the display itself. Furthermore, these cut-away sides permit a readier 'access to the goods than otherwise would be possible.

The trays maybe subdivided to'any desired number or any desired shape and in Fig. 5 I have. illustrated the two lower trays v'as each being sub-dividediinto'seven similar compartments 40.

Tn the case of the'inclined trays 28aud 34, the glass and angleiron partitions may readily be removed and thetrays dusted or swept out. In the case of the flat bottom displays 23 and 25, I have 'provided in the front edge-of each slot Sv through which the dust or other matter which may have accumulated on the bottom of the tray may be swept.

What I therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. Display apparatus comprising a support having an upturned rim, back and sides attached to said rim and supported thereby, a vertical partition spaced inwardly from the front of said rim and supported by said sides and providing with said rim a front display section, said partition having an inturned flange on its upper edge, a second display section consisting of a member bent to provide a vertical back and horizontal bottom, a forwardly turned flange on said back, said section supported by said sides with its bottom bearing on said inturned flange of said partition and disposed so that said bottom extends forwardly of said vertical partition to provide a partial cover for said front display section, a third display section comprising a member bent upon itself to provide an inclined bottom and a vertical back, said bottom having a horizontallyV disposed pocket adapted to receive the forwardly turned flange of said second display section and said back having a forwardly turned flange, the bottom of said third section extending over said second section to provide a partial cover therefor but terminating inwardly of the front thereof.

Display apparatus comprising a support having an upturned rim, back and sides attached to said rim and supported thereby, a vertical partition spaced inwardly from the front of said rim and supported by said sides and providing with said rim a front display section, said partition having an inturned ange on its upper edge, a second display section consisting of a member bent to provide a vertical back and horizontal bottom, a forwardly turned flange on said back, said section supported by said sides with its bottom bearing on said inturned flange of said partition and disposed so that said bottom extends forwardly of said vertical partition to provide a partial cover for said front display section, a third display section comprising a member bent upon itself to provide an inclined bottom and a vertical back, said bottom having an inwardly disposedhorizontal pocket adapted to receive the forwardly turned flange of said second display section and said back having a forwardly turned flange, the bottom of said third section ex- A tending over said first section to provide a partial cover therefor but terminating inwardly of the front thereof, a fourth display section comprising a member bent to provide a vertical back and inclined bottom, said bottom terminating inwardly of the bottom of said third display section and said bottom at its rear bearing on said inturned flange of said third section, said fourth section being mounted on said sides at an angle thereto other than the angle of said first and second sections. 3. Display apparatus comprising a support having an upturned rim, back and sides attached to said rim and supported thereby, a vertical partition spaced inwardly from the front ofs'aid rim and supported by said sides and providing with said rim a front display section, said partition having an inturned flange on its upper edge, a second display section consisting of a memberY bent to provide a vertical back and horizontal bot-' tom, a forwardly turned flange on said back, said section supported by said sides with its bottom bearing on said inturned flange of said partition and disposed so that said bottom extends forwardly of said vertical par-4 tition to provide a partial cover for said front display section, a third display section comprising a member bent upon itself to provide an inclined bottom and a vertical back, said bottom having an Ainwardly disposed horizontal pocket adapted to receive the forwardly turnedv flange of said second display section and said back having a forwardly turned flange, the bottom of said third section extending over said first section to provide a partial cover therefor but terminating inwardly of the front thereof, a fourth display section comprising a. member bent to provide al vertical back and inclined bottom, said bottom terminating inwardly of the bottom of said third display section and said bottom at its rear bearing on said inturned flange of said third section, said fourth section being mounted on said sides at an angle thereto other than the angle of said first and second sections, and a cover supported by said sides and having its rear end bearing on said inturned Harige of said fourth section and terminating inwardly of the bottom of said fourth section.

4. Display apparatus comprising a support having an upturned rim, back and sides attached to said rim and supported thereby, a vertical partition spaced inwardly from the front of said rim and supported by said sides and providing with said rim a front display section, said partition having an inturned flange on its upper edge, a second display section consisting of 4a member bent to provide a vertical back and horizontal bottom, a forwardly turned flange on said back, said section supported by said sides with its bottom bearing on said inturned flange of said partition and disposed so that said bottom extends forwardly of said vertical partition to provide a partial cover for said front display section, a third display section comprising a member bent upon itself to provide an inclined bottom and a vertical baclr, said bottom having an inwardly disposed horizontal pocket adapted to receive the forwardly turned flange of said second display section and said back having a forwardly turned flange, the bottom of said third section extending over said first section to provide a partial cover therefor but terminating inwardly of the front thereof a fourth display section comprising a member bent to provide a vertical back and inclined bottom, said bottom terminating inwardly of the bottom of said third display section and said bottom at its rear bearing l0 on said inturned flange of said third section, said fourth section being mounted on said sides at an angle thereto other than the angle of said first and second sections, and a cover supported by said sides and having its rear end bearing. on said inturned flange of said fourth section and terminating inwardly of the bottom of said fourth section, said sides being cut away substantially to conform to the end contour of said display sections so that the goods on display may be seen and removed fro-m the side as well as the front of the display apparatus.
