Application October 17, 1934, Serial No. 748,621
) 2 Claims. (Cl. 211-71) This invention relates to improvements in display device for bottled beverages.
One of the objects of this invention is to produce a display device which .will attractively display and provide a support for bottled goods disposed both in a case or standard box and in a carton or cartons, whereby the suggestion will be conveyed by one compact device that the beverage is available in both boxes and cartons.
Another object of my invention is to provide a display device embodying a supporting element having substantially the configuration of a triangular prism and provided with an inclined support for a bottle-containing box and means for supporting a carton in inclined position on the bottle-containing box.
Still another object of my inventionis to provide in a display device a storage compartment within which collapsed cartons may be stored and having a slidable door to permit access to and closing of such compartment, and preferably having an extension portion serving as a rest for an additional carton and to providespace for advertising the goods.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a device of the character specified having the representation ofa box and from which the conventional box may be removed and replaced, thus enabling a clean advertising display surface representing the box to be used in the device, while allowing the standard box or container, the advertising surface on which is sometimes marred, to be covered and concealed.
Still another object of my invention is to produce the body of a display device of the character specified from a single piece of sheet metal.
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises the combination of members and arrangement of parts so combined as to coact and co-operate with each other in the performance of the functions and the accomplishment of the results herein contemplated, and comprises in one of its adaptations the species or preferred form illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a display device embodying my invention;

looking in the direction ofgthe arrows;

Fig. 11 is a front elevation of another modified form of display device embodying my invention;
Fig. 11 is a sideelevation of the device shown in Fig. 11;
Fig. 12 is a section on the line |2l2 of Fig. 11,looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 13 is a section on the line I3l3 of Fig. 12, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 14 is a section on the line I l-l4 of Fig. 12 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 15 is a view in perspective of the longitudinal separating partitions shown in Figs. 11, 12, and 13, and
Fig. 16 is a view in plan showing the configuration of a metal blank preferably employed for producing my display device from a single piece of sheet metal.
Referring now to these drawings and particularly to Figs. 1 to thereof, I indicates a supporting element-having substantially the conformation of a triangular prism and having a supporting portion 2 for a beverage box 3 which is mounted upon said supporting portion 2 and secured thereto by screws 3' or in any other suitable manner. As illustrated, the supporting portion 2 comprises inwardly-turned flanges 2' formed on triangular-shaped side-members 2 also having inturned flanges 2 forming feet for the triangular prism shaped body I. In the embodiment shown, the said body is provided with a bottom member 2 so as to form a hollow compartment enclosed at the' top and front by the 'bottom 3 of the box, at the sides by the side members 2, at th bottom by the bottom member 2, the rear end being closed by a verticallyslidable door 2 slidably mounted in ways 2, 2
the outer members of which ways 2 being formed by providing inwardly-turned flanges and the inner way members 2 preferably being provided by fastening in parallel relationship to said flanges 2 the angle bars 2.
The box 3 is provided with the usual honeycomb compartments 3 formed by longitudinal partitions 3 and transverse partitions 3 and is also provided with the usual side members 3 and end members 3 It will be seen that the provision of a body 7 having the conformation of a triangular prism enables a standard bottle-containing box or case to be displayed in inclined position. Bottled goods of the type under consideration are usually sold in boxes or cases and are also sold in cartons, and in accordance with my invention I am enabled to display in a single compact device a box or case of the type under consideration and also a carton of such bottled goods.
For the purpose of displaying a carton in connection with a box or case, I preferably mount on the upper half of the box or case a plate 4, having an upwardly projecting shelf 4' on which the carton 5 filled with bottled goods is adapted to be supported. As illustrated, the plate 4 is provided with a downwardly extending :flange 4 at the top end thereof the bottom end is provided with a double bent portion 4 extending into the box 3 and fastened as illustrated by screws 4 to one of the transverse partitions 3.
In the preferred form of my invention II also preferably provide the door 2 with a vertical extension N which projects abovethe top of the box 3 and the inner surface of which forms a rest for the side of a carton 5', the bottom of which is supported on the top of the box 3.
In the preferred form of my invention the door 2 is connected to the body I by means of a chain 6 fastened at opposite ends to eyelets 1, I so as to permit a limited opening upward movement of the door to permit access to the prism shaped compartment for the pur-.
pose of inserting therein collapsed cartons 8, or any other suitable equipment used in the selling of the bottled beverage.
In Figs. 6 to 10 inclusive, I have illustrated a modified form of my invention in which instead of fastening the box 3 directly to the flanges 2', I provide an outer metallic shell 9 having the representation of a wooden box painted thereon and adapted to receive within the same a standard wooden box or case 3. In order to permit the insertion of the box, a carton supporting plate 40 is hinged at its upper end by means of rivets 40' to the upper ends of the sides 9' of the outer shell 9. This plate .40 is provided with a shelf 40" projecting therefrom and has a double flange 40- at the bottom thereof which loosely engages a partition of the box 3. In this construction of my invention the outer shell or container can also be kept clean and properly painted because it is not handled and moved around on trucks and a. box or case may be readily slipped into this outer shell or receiver. In otherrespects the invention is similar to that hereinabove describedrin Figs. 1 to 5. In Figs. 11 to 16 inclusive I have shown another modified form of my invention in which the prism shaped body and box are composed of a single piece of metal except for the insertion of longitudinal partitions. In this form of my invention a blank of substantially the conformation illustrated in Fig. 16 is bent to provide a fastening flange ID, a box end II, a carton supporting plate l2, a series of transverse honeycomb partitions l3, I3, I3 and a box end member l4, and a compartment bottom l5, box sides l6, I6 having inwardly extending flanges l I, I1 and side members l8, l8 provided with doorway flanges l9, 19'. In this device it is only necessary to supply the door guide strip or way 20 iand a shelf 2| which may be fastened by a strip 2| in order to provide a complete display device which will serve substantially the same function as hereinabove described for the devices illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 and 6 to 10 inclusive.
It will be seen that this device provides adequate and desirable advertising display surface on the sides of the prism shaped supporting element, on the box itself or the representation thereof, on the carton supporting plate covering the upper part of the box and on the upper extension of the door.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A display device for bottle beverages, comprising a. mottled-beverage box-like receptacle, oblong in conformation, provided with bottom and wall portions and having its longer axis disposed in inclined position, means for fixedly supporting said receptacle in said inclined position, said receptacle having an open upper side,
a honeycomb for mounting individual bottles disposed in inclined position, means for fixedly supporting said receptacle in said inclined position, said receptacle having an open upper side, a honeycomb for mounting individual bottles disposed within said receptacle and exposed through said open upper side, a carton supporting plate also disposed in inclined position to cover a portion of the open upper side of said receptacle and supported on said upper side,
and a shelf connected with and projecting at;
right angles from said inclined plate.
