SHIRT EXHIBITOR.
No. 463,842 Patented Nov. 24, 1891.
ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn.
-JOHN IV. MORRISON, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HAGEDORN & MERZ, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
' SHIRT-EXHIBITOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,842, dated November 24, 1891. Application filed December 10,1890- Serial No. 374,154. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be itknown that 1, JOHN W. MORRISON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shirt- Exhibitors, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to a shirt-exhibitor;
IO and it consists of a bag open at one end and with an opening in its front and provided with a flap adapted to cover said open front, said flap having tongues adapted toenter slits formed in said front and simulating the pock- I 5 ets of a vest represented thereon. j
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a shirt-exhibitor, partly opened, embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the exhibitor shown open and with a shirt within the same. Fig.'3 represents a section on line 0000, Fig. 1, the flap being closed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a bag made of paper or other suitable material with an opening Bin one of the walls thereof. On said wall surrounding the opening is the representation of a vest C, which representation is produced in any desirable manner, the
0 opening 13 contributing to such representation. Either end of the bag, in the present case the top, is open, forming a mouth, the same being provided with a flap D for closing and covering the opening B. It will 3 5 be seen that a shirt may be inserted into the bag, and when in position its bosom appears through the opening B, thus showing how the same appears when worn with a vest and exhibiting the shirt in a more satisfactory manner to the purchaser. closed, the shirt is entirely packed in the bag and covered by the same, so that it may be carried, transported, the, in a most convenient manner. The free end of the flap is slit,
as at E, forming the tongues F F, which are employed for locking the flap with the front face or wall of the bag. Said tongues are inserted in loops or slits G, formed on or in said face, thus preventing the flap from opening and providing a reliably closed package or Wrapper for the shirt. The loops or Walls of the slits G simulate the pockets of the vest, the openings back of the same being in a measure concealed by the front of the material of which said loops'or slits are formed. By properly manipulating the tongues the flap may be released and readily Opened when so desired.
The outlines of a vest-front may be printed or otherwise marked on the outer face of the flap, so as to present the appearance of such garment when the package is closed.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A shirt-exhibitor consisting of a bag open at one end and with an opening in its front and provided with a flap adapted to cover said open front, said flap having tongues adapted to enter slits formed in the said front and simulating the pockets of a vest represented thereon, substantially as described.
, JOHN IV. MORRISON.
