Description

J. J. HAHN. BRAID SPOOL.
(N0 Model.)
No. 462,004. Patented 0%.727, 1891.
WITNESEIE.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH J. HAHN, OF PROVIDENCE, RI-IODE ISLAND.
BRAlD-SPOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 462,004, dated October 27, 1891.
Application filed January 14 1891. Serial No. 377,696. (No modehf T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. HAHN,ofProvidence,in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Braid-Spools; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Braid is sold in the market in rolls consisting of a spool on which the tape is wound so as to form acircular disk. The braidis made in diiferent colors and in the various shades of the colors. It is used largely for binding and trimming clothing. \Vhen so used, it has to be sewed onto the clothing with sewingthread of the same color as the braid. In practice it is not only difficult to secure the thread of the exact shade or color of the braid, but a much larger quantity of thread of the particular shade of color to match the braid has to be purchased than is required to sew the braid onto the garment.
The object of this invention is to produce new and useful improvements in spools adapted to hold braid, or similar binding material, and thread or silk by which said bind ing material may be sewed.
To this end my invention consists in certainnew and peculiar features of construction and combination of parts, which will hereinafter be more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 is a side view of a roll of braid provided with a spool of thread forming the preferred form for carrying out myinvention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
Similar numbers of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout.
In the drawings, the number 6 indicates a circular disk of practically the thickness of the width of the braid.
cross-strips 10, the ends of which are secured to the ring 8. Such a crossfastening may be used on one or both ends to securely hold the spool in the ring, or a label may be pasted on one or both ends to the spool and the ring so as to hold the spool in the ring.
All the spools are provided with the usual central hole, so that they may be used on a sewing-machine.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A spool consisting of a ring 011 which braid may be wound and a secondary spool provided with a groove within the ring, as described.
2. In a spool, the combination, with the secondary spool 6, provided with the groove 7, of the ring 8, placed over said spool, and a fast ening device secured to the ring and extending across the spool, as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JOSEPH J. HAHN.
