IVILLIAM FREDRIOK WVEBBER, OF HORNELLSVILLE, NE? YORK.
WIRE FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,316, dated September 29, 1891.
Application filed December 26, 1890. Serial No. 375,785. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FREDRICK' \VEBBER, of I-Iornellsville, in the county of Steuben, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wire Fences, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a full, clear, and exact description.
Myinvention relates to strands used in constructing wire fences.
My object is toproduce such a strand cheap and very durable in construction and of great utility.
My invention consists in the several features of construction hereinafter described, and which are set forth in the claim hereto annexed.
The drawing shows a horizontal side e1evation of my fence-strand to a vertical position.
A A are main or supporting parallel wires of the strand, provided with lateral or inward projecting corrugations 1 1 at regular distances apart, and are preferably opposite each other, although it will readily be observed that they may be at irregular distances apart and not opposite Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
2 2 are zigzag wires extending, as shown,
from one of the main wires to the other and crossing each other at 3. It will be observed that one of these zigzag wires passes up and over the recess 1 1 of the main wire and down the other side, and that 'the other zigzag wire takes an opposite direction, thereby forming a Very strong and durable strand. It will also be observed that I maycrimp either laterallyor vertically the main wires, so that in weaving in the zigzag wires much labor may be saved and the size of the mesh will always be maintained, for the reason that the wires woven in cannot slide out of place. In the drawing I show but two wires; but it will be apparent that any number may be used.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A Wire-fence strand consisting of two parallel wires, each having a series of bends or recesses, and zigzag wires crossing each other and engaging with said bends, as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand on this 22d day of December, 1890.
WILLIAM FREDR-ICK WEBBER.
In presence of FRANK KELLY, ALFRED WEBB.
